The Commercial Application Scientist is a versatile role crafted to support the company’s revenue and margin attainment and market development objectives. It plays a critical role alongside of the company’s Client Executives by assisting in account management and facilitating client discovery processes to identify and address opportunities. This role will require a blend of laboratory process knowledge, understanding of scientific techniques and associated applications, consultative discovery skills, client communications, client management and service, product expertise, critical thinking, and team selling skills. This position will collaborate with Client Executives, Scientists, Marketing, and other professionals in the sales process. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the following essential functions satisfactorily:

    Sales Support:

    Provides technical sales assistance to achieve the company’s revenue and margin goals. This role will involve client discovery from the C-level executive suite to the laboratory floor, figuring out relevant solutions, quantifying the value proposition, assisting with proposal development, and implementation planning to achieve sales results. The discovery process and associated results are expected to translate into specific products and features in a proposed solution. The quantification derived from the discovery process should provide metrics to prepare detailed value propositions and return on investment within the proposal. Develops implementation and project plans that align with client’s operations, facilities, and timelines and will be expected to work closely with the Client Executives to coordinate the technical tactics, resources and projects during the sales cycle.

      Solution Engineering:

      Identifies, clarifies, and communicates unique client requirements to the LGC team. Identifies relevant solution options to satisfy client requirements. This will oftentime involve the identification and testing of a laboratory client’s assays in the context of the LGC solution. The Application Scientist will lead and run that process with support from the broader LGC team. In cases where external third-party products or services are required, the CAS will conduct evaluations to validate and recommend solutions. Prepares relevant implementation plans for assigned accounts and brief service and science personnel on customer requirements prior to shipment and installations. This effort will involve coordination with the Client Executive, Science, Service, and Engineering to ensure solutions are aligned with product plans, schedules, and budgets.

        Industry and Product Knowledge:

        Maintains a strong understanding of industry trends, laboratory technologies, scientific applications, client operations and process, and competitive offerings to effectively position LGC products to prospects. Effectively represents LGC at briefings, meetings and trade events.

        Qualifications Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications Minimum Qualifications:
        • PhD in biosciences or a related field, or equivalent experience
        • At least 2 years of market-facing experience in a laboratory environment
        • Demonstrated familiarity with laboratory processes
        • Sophisticated experience in genotyping, chemistry and NGS
        • Prior technical sales support and relationship management
        • Strong digital literacy required, including solid understanding of Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
        • Ability to travel as needed.
