Overview:

Team Ignite is seeking a skilled Software Developer, Application to support the U.S. Coast Guard ISD mission by developing, modifying, testing, and maintaining general-purpose and specialized applications and utility programs. The developer will participate in full lifecycle software engineering tasks—design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and documentation—while also analyzing user needs, system functionality, and operational workflows to optimize efficiency and performance across mission-critical IT systems. This position may also involve database analysis, Agile project support, and client-facing engagement across multiple functional domains including logistics, personnel, and finance. Developers will work as part of a collaborative Agile team and must be capable of operating at a high technical level while supporting modernization and sustainment efforts for legacy and emerging Coast Guard applications.

Must be able to obtain a favorable Tier 1 background investigation (for unclassified systems)

Key Responsibilities:

Design, build, modify, test, and troubleshoot software applications and system components. Customize software to meet specific client needs and enhance operational workflows. Conduct requirements gathering, business analysis, and functional design in collaboration with end users and stakeholders. Develop and analyze logical and physical database models and system architecture. Participate in Agile sprint planning, daily standups, and retrospectives. Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including user manuals, architecture diagrams, and SOPs. Implement cloud-based and containerized solutions (e.g., Azure, Kubernetes) aligned with USCG infrastructure. Evaluate and incorporate emerging technologies, ensuring application resiliency and modernization. Conduct integration and system testing; identify and resolve software and configuration issues. Provide technical mentoring, task leadership, and support to team members as required. Interface with clients to present designs, demonstrate solutions, and gather feedback.

Minimum Education and Qualifications Subject Matter Expert (SME):

Education:

Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, Math, or related field; or an equivalent IT certification. Six (6) years of experience equates to three (3) years of formal education.

Experience:

Minimum six (6) years in software requirements, architecture, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and lifecycle management. Six (6) years of experience in Windows Azure development. In-depth experience with Active Directory (AD), Certificate Services, and Azure AD integrations. Six (6) years of experience in Agile DevSecOps environments. Six (6) years with Kubernetes, Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket (or equivalent). Must be able to obtain a favorable Tier 1 background investigation.

Senior Software Developer:
Education:

Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, Math, or related field; or an equivalent IT certification. Five (5) years of experience equates to two (2) years of education.

Experience:

Minimum five (5) years in software requirements, design, coding, testing, architecture, and documentation. Two (2) years of project-level software design experience. Two (2) years in Agile software development environments. Two (2) years experience with Kubernetes, Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket (or equivalent). Must be able to obtain a favorable Tier 1 background investigation.

Journeyman Software Developer:
Education:

Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, Math, or related field; or an equivalent IT certification. Two (2) years of experience equates to one (1) year of education.

Experience:

Minimum two (2) years in software development lifecycle activities. One (1) year of program-level software design experience. One (1) year in Agile DevSecOps environments. One (1) year with Kubernetes, Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket (or equivalent). Must be able to obtain a favorable Tier 1 background investigation.

Additional Requirements:

Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills for team collaboration and end-user engagement. Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced Agile environment. Experience with government or DoD systems is preferred.
