Pay Rate:
$74.15 per hour The NYC Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI) is seeking an experienced Application Operations Engineer to join the DevOps Applications division. The role focuses on supporting cloud-based applications deployed on AWS as part of the City’s Application Modernization Initiative. This includes critical applications like
NYC.ID, OTI CAPTCHA
service, CityClerk, NYC.gov, and others. Key Responsibilities Deploy applications to production and non-production AWS environments. Manage and resolve service tickets efficiently based on priority. Troubleshoot and triage application issues in a timely manner. Implement application enhancements, especially related to security. Use observability and triaging tools such as AWS CloudWatch. Work with CI/CD pipelines and project management tools like Azure DevOps. Develop solutions for defect fixes and application enhancements. Maintain and update detailed documentation on application architecture, design, and operations. Collaborate effectively with project managers, QA, and business stakeholders. Adhere to code quality and security standards. Mandatory Skills & Experience Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience supporting and developing Java applications. Proficiency with Java build tools like Maven and Gradle. Extensive experience with Spring MVC, Spring Boot, JPA, Hibernate, and JSP. Strong knowledge of relational databases such as Oracle and/or PostgreSQL.
Operational experience with AWS services:
Fargate/ECS, Lambda, EC2, EFS, ELB, etc. Expert use of
Azure DevOps:
Git, CI/CD pipelines for build and release. Ability to stay calm and focused during production outages and issue triaging. Experience monitoring AWS and custom applications via CloudWatch or similar tools. Proven team player with strong communication skills. Desirable Skills Scripting in Python, PowerShell, or Bash. Experience integrating with external SaaS platforms. Frontend skills with ReactJS. Containerization knowledge with Docker. Familiarity with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Special Requirements Background check may be required. Work will follow normal business hours with possible overtime upon approval.
