Mon – Fri / 8:30AM – 5PMHybrid (part remote and part in office) Job DescriptionWe are seeking a goal-oriented professional for the role of an Initial Claims Developer (IRCD) to work with our NYC ACS (Administration for Children’s Services) project team to process SSI applications for children in foster care, as well as those who have recently exited foster care. Once an application has been filed, it will be assigned to the IRCD whose responsibility will be to continue to develop and manage the claim until a decision has been made by SSA. Responsibilities will include identification of missing medical and/or school records and the collection and submission of those records to SSA. The IRCD will work closely with social workers, caregivers, SSA and Disability Determination Services (DDS) throughout the initial and reconsideration levels of SSAs pending process and will provide updates to the claim, as necessary. They will coordinate attendance to SSA’s Consultative Exam (CE) appointments with caregivers, social workers and/or older youth. Upon a denial, the IRCD will conduct an analysis on the merit for an appeal, collect additional information/evidence and complete the reconsideration appeal when warranted.
To be successful in this role, a person must have strong analytical skills to apply critical thinking to each unique claim. They must be comfortable managing high volume caseloads, working in a fast-paced friendly environment and be comfortable with ongoing monthly goals.
Specific Responsibilities:
Request medical, physiological, school records.
Provide timely and accurate updates in the case management system Provide status updates and request additional information as needed from social workers.
Keep in regular contact with social workers & caregivers.
Assess evidence and apply analytical thinking to claims development.
Provide monthly reporting statistics to the Team Lead for designated area of responsibility.
Required Skills:
Experience in a professional office environmentProper telephone etiquette that provides friendly and knowledgeable customer service Culturally competent Proficient capabilities with Microsoft Word, email/Outlook, Excel & other basic office equipment Strong professional written and verbal communication skills including grammar, spelling, and vocabularyStrong Interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish positive working relationships with all stakeholders. Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of all materials in the work settingKnowledge and understanding of SSAs disability criteria for both children and adults Ability to interpret and execute requests from SSA,& DDSApplied skill with time management and accountability.
