Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Data Visualization Lead to design and build advanced, interactive visualizations that translate complex datasets into compelling insights. This role requires expertise in React and Deck.gl, a strong understanding of UI/UX principles, and the ability to lead a team. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including data scientists, engineers, and product managers to deliver data-driven user experiences. Key Responsibilities
Design, architect, and develop high-performance, interactive data visualizations using React, Deck.gl, and related technologies.
Lead a team of visualization engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and conducting code reviews.
Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and engineers to gather requirements and transform them into effective visual storytelling.
Optimize rendering performance for large-scale geospatial and temporal datasets.
Ensure accessibility, responsiveness, and intuitive usability across devices.
Maintain scalable and maintainable visualization codebases following best practices.
Stay up to date on data visualization and front-end development trends to foster innovation within the team.
Participate in the full software development life cycle including design documentation, testing, configuration, and release processes.
Provide effort estimations and technical inputs to project managers and stakeholders
Mentor and guide team members, ensuring skills development and high engagement.
Support quality assurance through proactive defect management and code reviews.
Interface with customers to clarify requirements, present design solutions, and support delivery expectations. Required Qualifications
8+ years of front-end development experience, with at least 2 years dedicated to data visualization.
Proficiency in React.js and Deck.gl, including knowledge of layers, views, and Carto integration.
Strong grasp of JavaScript (ES6+), HTML/CSS, WebGL, and Canvas rendering pipelines.
Experience with data manipulation libraries (e.g., D3.js, Lodash) and working with APIs or large datasets.
Familiarity with geospatial data formats such as GeoJSON, TopoJSON, and tilesets.
Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams or projects.
Excellent communication skills and ability to present complex data through visual storytelling. Preferred Qualifications
Experience using design systems and tools like Figma or Storybook.
Background in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) or urban data analysis.
Familiarity with state management tools (e.g., Redux, Zustand) and build systems like Webpack or Vite.
Experience in performance profiling and tuning visualization applications.
Exposure to Agile development practices and fast-paced environments.
