The Specialist Software Engineer is focused on the design and development of web and cloud technologies to support an agile digital business. Helps define web and cloud strategies, grow capabilities, and develops enterprise-wide solutions by providing technology leadership, insight on new developments within the application solution space, and guidance in design, framework, and platform decisions.
Job Description Responsibilities
Lead analysis and complex architectural design across platforms toward the development of end-to-end solutions; translate architectural guidance into detailed technical design. Lead committees or projects to help define organization-wide standards, processes, and guidelines.
Work collaboratively with other development staff, including contract and offshore Software Engineers, and business product owners in an agile environment.
Code, test, identify, implement, and document solutions to business challenges utilizing web and cloud technologies.
Perform design and analysis for deliverables. Lead large team design sessions.
Serve as a subject matter expert for a wide range of areas, applications, and technologies;
Recommend solutions which take into consideration costs, business needs, and system impacts.
Utilize third-party software development frameworks, open-source libraries, and APIs to rapidly develop basic application solutions. Lead web development staff, including contract and off-shore developers; may have supervisory responsibility over employees.
Learn and keep pace with the latest advances in the field and rapidly grasp new technologies to support the environment and contribute to project deliverables.
Prepare presentations and lead development meetings.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, math, engineering, or other technical field, or equivalent experience
Six years of expertise in coding platforms/frameworks (e.g.

COBOL, .NET/C

#, JAVA, JCL, SQL)
Five years of experience and expertise in database design techniques and philosophies
Three years of development experience with cloud services (e.g. AWS) utilizing various support tools (e.g.

EC2, ECS, S3

)
Expertise in build and deployment tools – (Visual Studio, Git/Bitbucket, Maven, Jenkins, ControlM)
Five years of experience with integration and service frameworks (e.g. API Gateways, Apache Camel, Swagger API, Kafka, messaging tools, microservices)
Expertise with Microservices and REST based API development (e.g. Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Entity Framework, IIS, Swagger)
Experience leveraging continuous integration/development tools (e.g. Jenkins, Docker, Containers, OpenShift, Kubernetes, and container automation) in a Ci/CD pipeline
Familiarity with modern frontend development frameworks (Angular, React)
Advanced understanding of software development and research tools
Attention to detail and results oriented, with a strong customer focus
Ability to work as part of a team and independently
Analytical and problem-solving skills
Technical communication skills and the ability to present information to all levels of the organization
Problem-solving and technical communication skills
Ability to prioritize workload to meet tight deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree
Understanding of advanced analytics and machine learning concepts and technology implementations
Experience with big data and real time streaming analytics processing architecture
Experience with data warehousing architecture and implementation, including source to target mappings and ETL.
Technology or platform certifications (e.g. AWS, Microsoft)
Knowledge of the financial services industry

Mainframe and Legacy Systems Expertise:

Proficiency in supporting Vantage mainframe applications.
Experience with CSC’s JETS system, including batch processing, job control, and system maintenance.
Familiarity with DST file formats and associated data workflows.

Electronic Order Entry Platforms:

Hands-on experience with platforms such as AnnuityNet, AFFIRM, iCapital, FiDx, and Firelight.
Understanding of order entry workflows, data exchange formats, and integration best practices.
DTCC Insurance & Retirement Services (I&RS):
Deep knowledge of

DTCC I&RS

integrations, including:

APP/SUB,MSD, POV, COM

Experience with record layouts, standard usage, and transaction processing across these services.

ACORD Standards:

Familiarity with ACORD Life & Annuity Data Standards, including XML and JSON schemas.
Experience implementing or supporting ACORD-based data exchanges in insurance or annuity platforms.

Modern Technology Exposure:

Working knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
Experience with modern programming languages such as Python, Java, or C#.
Understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

Integration & Data Handling:

Experience integrating legacy systems with modern platforms.
Familiarity with ETL tools and data transformation pipelines.
Ability to analyze and troubleshoot data flow between mainframe and distributed systems.

DevOps & Automation:

Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automation tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
Scripting experience for automation (e.g., Shell, Python, PowerShell).

Compensation
The Salary for this position generally ranges between $140,000 – $160,000 annually. Please note that the salary range is a good faith estimate for this position and actual starting pay is determined by several factors including qualifications, experience, geography, work location designation (in-office, hybrid, remote) and operational needs. Salary may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by applicable law.
Additionally, this position is typically eligible for an Annual Bonus based on the Company Bonus Plan/Individual Performance and is at the Company’s discretion.
