Your Role:

Tenable is looking fora Staff Research Engineer to join our security research team. Thisposition will involve leading the research of disclosedvulnerabilities, looking for new vulnerabilities, developingadvanced checks/plugins to detect these vulnerabilities via ourproducts and leading cross-team collaborative strategic initiativesacross Tenable. The role would involve significant interfacing withstakeholders within and outside of Tenable while being highlytechnical in nature.

Your Opportunity:

Leads complex research anddevelopment initiatives across Tenable and the industry Expertlyimplements advanced detection logic while minimizing falsepositives & false negatives and considering the economics of eachalternative Leads/drives detection logic discussions and theresearch of new methods for detection thereby creating long termintellectual property for Tenable Interfaces with internal andexternal stakeholders on externalizing the outcomes of the researchParticipates in architecture & engine/sensor roadmap/planningdiscussion Mentors team members and helps other researchers ŋineers when needed

What Youll Need:

Ability to workindependently as a researcher as well as part of a team, leadingthe effort on most projects while also being an active member ofthe team on other initiatives Keep abreast with the advancementsand developments in the security industry and perform originalresearch to keep our customers secure Develop advanced detectionscripts for Tenable’s sensors (Nessus vulnerability scanner andothers) based on the research findings Research and develop methodsof detection for additional services and products from differentvendors Demonstrably strong programming and scripting skills inthree or more languages Significant experience in showcasingoriginal research externally – via blogs, whitepapers, conferencepresentations, PR interviews, etc. Ability to work independently asa researcher as well as part of a larger team. Is an expert in atleast 3 platforms (Windows, MacOS, Linux, HP-UX, etc.) and hasconsistently showcased diversity of research in 4 or more softwaretypes (host, network, cloud, OT, IoT, mobile, etc.) Is recognizedby peers as someone with stellar communication skills Adaptable andable to shift priorities among initiatives, as needed Obsessed withquality & accuracy Strong team player Ability to take calculatedrisks when dealing with limited requirements Initiative and driveto explore and learn continually Significant experience workingwith enterprise customers Degree in Computer Science or a relatedfield, or equivalent work experience At least 10 years of R Dexperience In depth understanding of common securityvulnerabilities, CVSS scoring, vulnerability classification,detection, and exploitation techniques. In-depth protocol analysisand interaction. Expert level knowledge of common protocols such asHTTP, DNS, SSH, SMB, etc. and fuzzing Prior experience leading andperforming open-ended security research when given high-levelrequirements and details of the desired outcome Experience withpen-testing, researching, discovering, or publishingvulnerabilities Solid reverse engineering experience includingbinary analysis, packet capture analysis, and firmware analysis(using binwalk). Prior experience with debuggers, disassemblers ordecompilers (e.g. IDA Pro, Immunity Debugger, gdb) Prior experienceworking with external vendors on coordinated vulnerabilitydisclosures, creating security advisories, etc. Experience with Cor C++, Assembly (x86/x64 and/or

ARM/ARM64

), and scriptinglanguages One or more security related certifications (e.g. OSCP)Experience with systems administration and be comfortable workingat the command line LI-Hybrid LI-LP1 This is the base pay range forthis position. Compensation for the role will depend on a number offactors, including the candidates qualifications, skills,competencies, location and experience, and may fall outside of therange shown. Employees are also eligible for variable compensationin addition to base pay (commission for sales roles, bonus fornon-sales roles), depending on company and individual performance.
