Description Eastman’s Plastics Technology Division is looking for an experienced Scientist to support the Application Development Team in winning new markets and applications for our specialty polymer portfolio.
Responsibilities Become a core member of an industry segment team (Application Development, Marketing, Sales, Technical Service, Product Management); Participate in, align with and influence the strategy of the industry segment team
Support market facing StageGate Projects and lead technical activities of SSOs and StageGate projects
Become a technical expert in a market space and its applications (including understanding competitive products)
Identify & document industry and customer specific unmet needs and product fitness for use criteria
Convert voice of customer into CTQs which drives product selection and development
Define market specific unmet needs / deficiencies
Promote an entire portfolio of solutions to meet market needs
Design and execute experiments aimed at developing applications for specific industries
Promote customer trials and evaluations
Help develop technical information for customer engagement
Knowledgeable about industry relevant secondary operations
Partner with Product Development team to deliver products that a market needs and that will bring value to Eastman Have a deep understanding of structure – property, and processing relationships of thermoplastic polymers
Protect intellectual property through patent applications Communicate results through effective written documentation and oral presentations internally and externally
Leading of and participating on multi-disciplinary teams
Working in a fast-paced, results-oriented team environment to assist in developing new technologies that provide solutions to customers’ needs Qualifications

EDUCATION

Ph.D. or Master’s degree preferred, Bachelor’s degree required in Polymer Science/Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field

EXPERIENCE

PhD and 3 or more years of experience in industry; BS or MS and 5 or more years of experience in industry
Understanding of structure – property, and processing relationships of thermoplastic polymers
Demonstrated creativity and a desire to solve challenging, and complex problems
Excellent oral and written communication skills
