Job Description

Software Engineering Manager Hybrid:

3 days onsite in the Knoxville, TN area location Candidates must currently reside in the Knoxville, TN area or be willing to relocate prior to starting the position. This is a direct hire opportunity offering a competitive compensation package.

Overview:

We’re seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead a team focused on the integration, customization, and support of enterprise SaaS platforms. This is a people leadership role – not hands-on coding – ideal for someone with a technical background who has transitioned into strategic and people-focused management.

Role Specifics:

This is a full-time people management position with no coding responsibilities. Focus is on supporting and evolving a variety of business-critical platforms used across departments like HR, Finance, Legal, and more.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and mentor a cross-functional team of software engineers, product owners, QA professionals, and project managers. Manage delivery and support of enterprise SaaS solutions with a strong focus on customization and integration over ground-up development. Foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment that emphasizes innovation, ownership, and rapid delivery. Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and engineering, aligning goals and removing blockers to ensure delivery success. Coordinate with architecture and QA teams to ensure scalable, reliable, and high-quality solutions. Drive continuous improvement efforts, including process refinement and system optimization. Oversee resource planning, budgeting, and vendor coordination for third-party software platforms.

Core Requirements:

5+ years of software development experience, ideally with a background in .NET. 2+ years of experience managing software engineering or technical delivery teams. Strong understanding of SaaS customization, system integrations, and platform support. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience. Experience with Agile methodologies and sprint planning processes.

Must-Have Technical Knowledge:

Familiarity with enterprise SaaS platforms, system integrations, and back-office technologies. Experience supporting or managing platforms such as OnBase, Kofax, RabbitMQ, or similar systems. Understanding of cloud architecture (preferably AWS), including cost awareness and service configuration. Strong grasp of system design principles, technical dependencies, and operational resilience.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

Prior hands-on experience with .NET technologies before transitioning into management. AWS Certification or similar cloud credentials. Exposure to enterprise platforms like Workday, or experience with document management systems. Familiarity with message brokers (e.g., RabbitMQ), EDA patterns, or microservices.
