Evaluates data which is not originally requested by, produced intentionally for, or contracted by the National Ocean Service; for the purpose of updating NOAA Nautical Charts and feeding the National Bathymetric Source, which builds the national bathymetry, and to support a mandate for navigational products as well as other NOAA priorities, such as the New Blue Economy. Primary Responsibilities of the Systems Analyst include the

- Review bathymetry data and metadata to assess suitability for Office of Coast
Survey (OCS) navigation product updates. - Investigate submissions from external source data providers (i.e. other federal
agencies, universities, ports and many others) to verify validity of data packages
and inform appropriate use of data submissions based on hydrographic data
quality attributes. - Process submitted data to OCS standard formats and prepare data for ingestion
into the National Bathymetric Source. - Participate in the research and development of improved data review and data
management workflows and other special projects as needed Required Skills & Qualifications of the Systems Analyst include the

Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of hydrography and hydrographic science to support proper evaluation of bathymetric data and appropriate assignment of data quality. Experience working with common software used in bathymetric data processing and evaluation, such as Caris HIPS and SIPS, Caris Base Editor and QPS Qimera. Experience working with GIS software such as QGIS and ArcGIS Pro. Adept at working both independently and with others to share information and develop best practices. Has good attention to detail and strong organizational skills ensuring appropriate metadata is encoded and work is complete and accurate. Effective in both verbal and written modes of communication.
