We are seeking a technically proficient Workday Tax Specialist to support the enterprise-wide implementation of Workday Financials, with a specialization in Supplier Accounts and non-payroll tax configuration. This role will drive the end-to-end tax architecture and configuration strategy across a multi-state, tax-exempt, non-profit healthcare organization. The successful candidate will have deep expertise in indirect tax (sales/use), tax-exempt processing, and supplier data governance, with direct hands-on experience in Workday Financials configuration, reporting, and third-party tax engine integration (e.g., Avalara, Vertex). This position plays a key role in ensuring tax compliance, data integrity, and audit readiness during and post-implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the Tax Configuration Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Workday Financials, with focus on Supplier Accounts – Accounts Payable functions. Architect and implement Workday tax setups including: Sales/use tax determination rules Tax categories Tax rate schedules Jurisdiction mapping Exemption certificate logic 1099 configurations Collaborate with Workday functional leads, IT developers, and external consultants to align technical solutions with tax policy requirements. Define and coordinate with SCM on the supplier master data taxonomy, ensuring correct tax classifications and attributes (TIN, W-9/W-8 handling, exemption codes, etc.). Lead configuration and testing of third-party tax engine integrations (e.g., Avalara/Vertex), including API connectivity, data mappings, and sync processes. Perform data migration validation for legacy tax data, including 1099 history, exemption statuses, and supplier tax profiles. Develop and execute tax-specific test scenarios across unit, integration, and user acceptance testing (UAT) environments. Maintain and enhance Workday reports and dashboards to support tax compliance, reconciliation, and audit trail transparency. Stay abreast of regulatory changes in multi-jurisdictional indirect tax and recommend system modifications to maintain compliance. Deliver training and knowledge transfer sessions to Finance, AP, and Procurement teams on tax configuration, reporting, and exception handling.
Qualifications:
Required:
Minimum 5 years of experience in indirect tax, supplier compliance, or AP operations, with 2+ years hands-on with Workday Financials. In-depth understanding of multi-state sales/use tax rules, tax-exempt entity processing, and 1099 compliance. Proficient in Workday Financials, particularly Supplier Accounts, Procurement, and Financial Accounting modules. Demonstrated ability to work on ERP implementation projects, including Fit/Gap analysis, solution design, and deployment. Strong skills in data analysis, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration.
Preferred:
Workday Financials certification (e.g., Procurement, Accounts Payable, or Financial Accounting). Experience in non-profit healthcare, public sector, or complex multi-entity organizations. Familiarity with Workday Studio, EIBs, and Workday integration architecture. Experience configuring or integrating with Avalara, Vertex, or other cloud-based tax automation solutions.
