Job Description

Vice President, UX & Design
New York, NY, United States (Hybrid)

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Role:

We are seeking a Vice President of UX & Design to lead the next chapter of product and design excellence at Hearst Magazines. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who blends sharp design sensibility with commercial acumen and a drive to execute. You’ll set the vision and pace for how audiences experience our brands across web, mobile, and emerging platforms—crafting intuitive, elegant, and commercially impactful products rooted in user insight, not theory. You’ll lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver standout work that serves both our users and the business.

RESPONSIBILITIES
What You’ll Do:

Set the UX and design strategy across Hearst Magazines’ digital products, aligning with editorial, product, and business goals.
Lead and mentor a high-performing team of UX, UI, and visual designers—prioritizing clarity, cohesion, and speed.
Drive design excellence—from concept to execution—without getting bogged down in process or theory. This is a hands-on, action-oriented leadership role.
Partner closely with our research and experimentation teams to turn user insights and testing into concrete design decisions that improve product performance.
Oversee, evolve and collaborate on the design system to ensure brand consistency, accessibility, and scalable design implementation across platforms.
Refine and optimize information architecture across a network of diverse digital properties, making content easier to discover and engage with.
Create user-first experiences that are intuitive, elegant, and built for real-world behavior—not academic ideals.
Balance craft with speed, ensuring the team moves fast while never compromising on usability, clarity, or brand impact.

QUALIFICATIONS
Who You Are:

A visionary design leader with strong taste, an instinct for what works, and a drive to ship quickly.
Commercially minded—you care deeply about outcomes, not just aesthetics.
A partner to product and tech teams, with the ability to turn strategy into smart, user-centered design.
Confident in research, but focused on action over analysis—you know when good is good enough, and when great really matters.
A proven leader who builds scalable systems, mentors talent, and creates a culture of experimentation and accountability.
Equally comfortable in a whiteboard session, sprint review, or executive meeting.

Qualifications:

10+ years of experience in UX/design, with at least 3 years in executive or senior leadership.
Demonstrated success leading design for consumer-facing, content-rich, and commercially focused products.
Deep understanding of UX principles, user research, information architecture, and modern design systems.
Experience partnering with experimentation and analytics teams to turn insights into iterative, high-impact design.
Strong fluency in Figma, prototyping tools, and collaborative design workflows.
Portfolio of work (individual or team-led) that shows clear evidence of great design, real results, and fast execution. Working at
