The opportunity:

We are looking for aSoftware Developer•Backendto join our high performing engineering team that focuses on building applications that deliver high-quality content to our users. You will work on an agile outcomes team and acts as a trusted partner to the product owner and agile project manager on the team.

Reporting to the Director of Backend Engineering your goal will be to develop high-quality software that is aligned with user needs and business goals. A successful candidate will excel at helping HBP deliver innovative learning products while demonstrating both creativity and attention to detail. If you enjoy working closely with both development and business stakeholders to identify, analyze, and enhance products and implement high-quality modern software solutions for the web and mobile devices, we want to talk to you! What you’ll do: Develop high-quality software design and architecture
Identify, prioritize, and execute tasks in the software development life cycle
Develop tools and applications by producing clean, efficient code
Review and debug code
Contribute to the engineering body of knowledge
Collaborate with engineering teams in solution design, development, and troubleshooting
Familiar with software development best practices, including build/integration frameworks, test tools, source code control systems, dependency management tools
Understanding of agile software development concepts and processes
Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
Support content delivery platform and act as point-person for stakeholders, trouble-shooting, and vendor requests
Understanding of internet-based media distribution solutions, video streaming standards and interactive media formats What you’ll bring: 2-4 years of experience as a hands-on software developer
Experience building applications that conform to high standards for security and data privacy
Experience in developing distributed web applications usingJavaand frameworks such asSpring/SpringbootandHibernate.
Working experience with relational databases (e.g.,MySQL,Aurora)
Familiarity with various operating systems (Linux, Mac OS, Windows)
Working experience in developing RESTful APIs and application of microservices architecture
Familiarity with integrating with 3rd party APIs and applications
Analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude
Ability to work independently
BSc/BA in Computer Science or a related degree or related experience
Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization You’ll stand out if have: Experience developing applications onAWSand good knowledge of variousAWS services(e.g., Beanstalk, Lambda, S3, SQS, SNS, ECS/ECR)
Experience using system monitoring tools (e.g., Relic,Splunk) and automated testing frameworks
Familiarity of containerization technologies (e.g.,Docker) and CI/CD pipelines.
Familiarity of front-end technologies and frameworks (Angular,React,Vue.js) a plus.
Familiarity with front-end tooling (Webpack, ESLint, NPM) and CSS processors (Sass, Less) a plus.

In addition, this position includes the opportunity to earn our annual Performance Based Variable Pay Program.
