Leadership Full Job Description Overview:
The Airport Operations Director•Emergency Services is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of all emergency-related operations at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). This role manages Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Law Enforcement support, the Airport Operations Center (AOC), and the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP). The position ensures regulatory compliance, stakeholder readiness, and coordinated response aligned with National Incident Management System (NIMS) standards.
Responsibilities:
Administer and maintain the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP), including updates, regulatory compliance, and all required drills and exercises. Lead the Airport’s Emergency Management program and coordinate training and preparedness with internal and external partners. Direct and manage the Airport Operations Center (AOC) to meet evolving operational demands. Serve as primary liaison to emergency response agencies (CMPD, MEDIC, CFD); oversee contracts, budgets, audits, and performance metrics. Ensure compliance with NIMS protocols and manage effective response during incidents or emergencies. Lead the Airport’s Safety program, promoting a proactive and collaborative safety culture. Supervise staff, develop succession plans, and ensure continuous performance development. Manage emergency-related budget planning and resource allocation. Participate in continuity of operations and operational readiness activities.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience Requirements:
Master’s degree and five (5) years of experience; OR Bachelor’s degree and seven (7) years of experience. Related fields include airport operations, emergency management, public safety, or EMS. Must include at least three (3) years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in emergency management (CEM, NIMS, or equivalent). Experience with federal regulatory agencies (FEMA, FAA, TSA). Prior experience managing large-scale emergency preparedness programs at a commercial airport. See link in brochure to full Job Description for more details.
