Description The purpose of this position is to assist in overseeing the daily operations of the Airport Safety Team, ensuring the enforcement of airport security protocols, effective team leadership, and compliance with regulatory standards to maintain a safe and secure airport environment. Examples of Duties The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Lead, mentor, and motivate Airport Safety Team members to ensure effective performance and adherence to security standards.
Monitor and enforce airport protocols, directives, and regulations in compliance with federal and local requirements.
Identify, analyze, and respond to potential threats or suspicious behaviors within the airport environment.
Monitor airport security doors and promptly report or address any security breaches.
Identify and mitigate risks related to unattended vehicles and other potential security threats.
Conduct inspections of merchandise prior to entry into sterile areas to prevent prohibited items from entering secure zones.
Perform employee screening to ensure proper security clearance and access control.
Provide professional customer service to airport users, addressing questions and concerns.
Conduct regular roving foot patrols to maintain a visible security presence and deter potential risks.
Stay current on emerging security threats, such as bomb threats or active shooter scenarios, through ongoing training.
Accurately document and report incidents to airport leadership and law enforcement for further investigation.
Persuade or influence individuals to comply with rules, regulations, and directives, enforcing compliance when necessary.
Performs related work as assigned.
Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy. Typical Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
Over one year and up to and including two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history. Supplemental Information All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment.
