METROPOLITAN KNOXVILLE AIRPORT AUTHORITY
The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority (MKAA) was established in 1978 as a nonprofit agency to own and operate the city’s aviation system, McGhee Tyson Airport and Downtown Island Airport, and has recently celebrated a full 87-years in service to the East Tennessee area. Being centrally located within a one day’s drive or a few hours flight from major cities, MKAA continues to be integral to the air transportation system. The Position:
The purpose of Supervisor of Airport Security position is to manage and oversee the daily surveillance activities of the airport and grounds as directed. This includes security and safety as it pertains to daily inspections, vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Supervises, coaches, and motivates a team of 15+ airport security officers and ensures department objectives are met. Provides customer service to visitors, passengers, tenants, and employees. Ensures the rules and regulations of the Knoxville Metropolitan Airport Authority, Transportation Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security are communicated, understood, and observed. Works with Public Safety Officers and appropriate staff to address complaints and violations of security and safety in a prompt manner. Monitors appropriate traffic movement, especially during heavy inbound and outbound flights, construction, and special events.
Responsibilities :
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff.
Supervisory functions include:
makes hiring and termination decisions in accordance with MKAA policy and procedures; prioritizes assignments and directs work; develops and oversees employee work schedules and approves time away from work; provides and/or facilitates employee training and development; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; completes employee performance appraisals; determines or makes recommendations regarding new hire salaries and salary changes in accordance with MKAA policy and procedures; and acts as liaison between employees and higher level management. Directs vehicular and pedestrian traffic, patrols outside terminal levels on foot, and issues citations to vehicles illegally parked or in violation of other parking regulations. Initiates the first step in the impoundment of vehicles due to delinquent citations or other violations. Oversees and provides training to staff who conduct airport worker inspections to ensure compliance with
TSA-NA-23-02.
Performs recurrent security checks, vehicle and vendor inspections, and safety inspections; issues permits, and conduct escorts. Answers questions from the public concerning travel directions, complaints concerning parking citations, and general information about the airport. Conducts Persons and Accessible Property Screening. Works special events (airshow, dignitary visits, etc.), supports Public Safety Officers as directed, and assists as assigned by the Chief of Public Safety or Shift Captain. Performs related work as required.
The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate should be observant and attentive to details, be able to activate an emergency response action in a crisis situation, and have clear and concise communications including radio communications. This person must demonstrate professionalism, have a calm demeanor in stressful or hostile situations, and have situational awareness, particularly when directing traffic. He or she should have people leadership skills, be able to manage work schedules in a dynamic environment, and maintain department budget and cost controls. The candidate should also have job-related training. Knowledge of Knoxville City Cab and Limousine Regulations, regulations governing the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport, Transportation Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security as they pertain to traffic, security and safety will be needed to successfully perform in the role.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s degree or equivalent 3 to 5 years of experience supervising employees 5 years of experience in security and/or customer-facing environments Certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and automated defibrillators (or ability to certify within 3 months of hire)
Salary and Compensation:
