Job Description

  • SMA 3 Engineer
  • Requirements:
  • Background with work experience in processing flight hardware and Ground Support Equipment that may include larger flight/GSE structures, system-level components, or smaller assemblies15+ years of “floor-level” experience with a variety of systems (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, etc.

)Experience inreviewing quality/engineering requirements and specifications, contracts, statements of work, and higher-level documents and translates those requirements into an effective insight/oversight quality plan and assure subsequent implementationQMS auditing experienceExperience monitoring/evaluating contractor processing activitiesCommunication and writing skills. Present plans, technical issues, and project statusRead/interpret drawingsProficiency with personal computers, specifically with using Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience with (or learn) virtual meeting products (MS Teams, Zoom, etc.) is desired

  • Security Clearance Requirement:
  • Must be a U.S citizen with the ability to pass a background test and drug screen.
  • Work Environment:
  • The plan is for the employee to work on-site 5 days per week.

However, this arrangement may be adjusted based on workload requirements and the need for weekend support.

Work at heights, confined spaces, and in non-controlled environments (outside/non-temperature controlled).

  • APT Research is seeking a SMA Engineer 3 to provide Quality Engineering/Quality Assurance support to the SA-F2 Branch Quality Assurance Team in the Exploration Ground System (EGS) Program.

Branch Chief or designated representative will coordinate and assign tasks based on real time needs as required with the

SMASS IV

Program Management Office or employee in a timely and mutually agreed manner.

  • Responsibilities
  • Serves as a Quality Engineering/Quality Assurance Subject Matter ExpertPerforms assessments/audits of contractor’s Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure products and services are produced per design documentation and engineering requirementsWorks with Contract Officers, Contractor Officer Representatives, and engineering Subject Matter Experts to identify applicable contract deliverables and acquisition requirementsSupports development of government insight and oversight plan for individual contractsIdentifies Government Mandatory Inspection Points and works with contractor to assure implementation and completion of GMIPsWorks with contractor Quality counterparts, engineering Subject Matter Experts, and other technical disciplines to resolve technical issues, address nonconformances, and other quality concernsManages and tracks procurement status, requests for Information, nonconformances, waivers, elevated risks, and any associated reportsReviews contractor documentation for compliance to higher level Program level and contractual requirementsReviews government and contractor data and performs data analysisIdentifies quality/safety issues, concerns, and potential risks that require mitigationRepresents NASA Quality while interfacing with key NASA and contractor procurement stakeholdersPerforms Government Mandatory Inspection Points (GMIPs), In-Line Assessments, surveillance inspections and tracks associated nonconformancesPerforms insight/oversight of contractor operations.

This effort will be focused on both flight hardware and Ground Support Equipment (GSE)Will work with a variety of systems such as mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and othersPerforms acceptance of GSE/hardware, receiving inspections, and review of Acceptance Data Packs (not including signi g of DD250 documents)Performs inspections, surveillance and requirement compliance while overseeing fabrication, assembly, and test and checkout of GSE and aerospace flight hardwareWorks as Point of Contact and assumes responsibility for leading some assignmentsPeriodically tasked with overseeing efforts on assignments
