Job Goals:
To assist in the operation of a safe and efficient transportation system for Cullman County Schools.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Possess and maintain a valid Alabama bus driver’s license. Successful work experience as a bus driver. Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457. Proficient in written and verbal communication skills. Must follow the additional health, age, and drug testing requirements of the Cullman County Commission on Education. Physical ability to perform all duties and responsibilities as specified by state and federal regulations. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities. Adheres to all traffic laws and driving safety rules. Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses. Fuels all locally assigned school buses as needed for regular routes and all extracurricular activities (regular route, activity, minibuses). Verifies all buses have a substitute driver in the event a regular driver cannot drive and is unable to schedule a substitute. Checks all buses assigned each day and completes all necessary daily maintenance. Maintains complete records of diesel fuel and oil used in buses daily. Maintains records of days driven on regular drivers and substitute drivers. Makes available to each driver daily, by attaching and having fully functional, the water hose, bucket and brush to clean rear bus windows and provides help in this area to any driver requesting assistance. Notifies drivers if rear window is being neglected or overlooked. Arranges to transport buses to garage for repairs and inspections. Maintains local school bus facility in a neat and orderly manner. Performs all duties and performance responsibilities of a bus driver. Performs duties in a courteous, professional manner. Serves as a liaison between local school bus drivers and the Central Office. Reports all accidents immediately to the transportation office and other appropriate officials; follows school system procedures related to accidents and post-accident activities. Notifies supervisor and/or other appropriate authorities in case of mechanical failure of bus or lateness. Attends all scheduled meetings/trainings. Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility. Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner. Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Properly cares for tools, equipment, and material resources of the school system. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws. Reports identified mechanical needs to Transportation Department. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures. Maintains a true and accurate record of hours worked per payroll procedures. Must not perform work in any capacity for Cullman County Schools beyond 40 hours per week without written authorization from the Transportation Director. Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
