JOB GOAL
To assist in providing excellent vehicle maintenance services for all district buses and other vehicles
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent Valid Alabama Driver’s License Possess and maintain a valid Alabama bus driver’s license (ABL) and commercial driver’s license (CDL) with P/S endorsement Maintain a current Alabama School Bus Physical or ALDOT Health Card as required by state law or the Alabama State Department of Education Meet Hoover City Schools’ insurable driver requirements Ability to prioritize tasks Ability to make estimates of time and materials needed for efficient project completion Ability to climb and work from scaffolding, ladders, and heights Ability to engage in prolonged sitting or standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching Strength and agility to lift and carry objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds; ability to exert up to seventy-five (75) pounds of force Ability and willingness to work indoors and outdoors year-round in noisy, crowded environments, in various temperatures and weather conditions Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays if necessary Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457 Such Alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law and the Board may require
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities 2. Assists in performing monthly safety inspections on buses as required by the State of Alabama 3. Assists in the maintenance of all vehicles and equipment owned by the District (including, but not limited to, suspension systems, steering systems, differentials, engines, transmissions, exhaust systems, electrical wiring systems, ignition systems, brakes) 4. Completes and maintains written maintenance records for all vehicles owned by the school system 5. Assists as needed with minor automotive body repairs 6. Maintains shop/service area and equipment; promotes high standards of safety 7. Properly uses and maintains responsibility for tools, equipment, and material resources of the District 8. Assists with road call duty as needed 9. Performs the essential functions of a bus driver as needed, including but not limited to transporting students 10. Responds promptly to call-out in emergency situations 11. Assists with all mechanical maintenance services with priority on student and employee safety; removes from service any bus or other vehicle that is unsafe to operate 12. Engages in work-related training to increase knowledge and skills as directed and/or for advancement 13. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters 14. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility 15. Report potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel 16. Responds to inquiries, requests, and constructive feedback in a timely and positive manner 17. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner 18. Properly uses and cares for tools, equipment, and material resources of the school system 19. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures 20. Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws 21.
