Transportation Supervisor

REPORTS TO

Transportation Director

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain current Alabama School Bus Driver Certificate and current Alabama Commercial Driver License (CDL) with proper endorsements. Answer/process all email/web messages from all schools. Process and schedule trip requests via Bus Software program from all schools, including requests for athletics, special needs and academic field trips. Dispatch assigned bus driver and bus within Bus Software program and notify driver via the Driver Portal. Print itinerary for bus driver and place in respective mail box. Receive telephone calls pertinent to transportation needs and respond efficiently. Review on a “day before basis” each driver’s assignments and communicate any changes from original schedule. Print and post weekly trip schedule 1 or 2 weeks in advance. Coordinate with Special Needs Department designee and communicate weekly Turning Points/Work Program schedule to assigned drivers. Drive bus assignments in a safe manner and adhere to proper pre-trip inspection and post-trip cleanup, including all State and Federal laws, rules and regulations. Driving will compromise 50% of contract hours. Arrange monthly inspection with local inspector as outlined in the Code of Alabama 16-27-5 . Assist as needed and arrange for any needed repairs. Maintain all shop records of all school buses. Schedule quarterly random drug & alcohol tests for all active school bus drivers in compliance with the Omnibus Employee Testing Act of 1991 (Part 382, Title 49) , ensuring drivers are also registered with The Federal Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse . Coordinate with Personnel Director for billing. Ensure that school bus evacuation drills are being conducted at least twice per year as outlined in Federal Guideline 17 . Submit together payroll/driver timesheets, trip invoices/costing reports and completed driver itineraries to Finance Department following the end of each pay period. Post-Trip data (mileage/drive time) should be entered into Bus Software System and electronic Transportation Spreadsheet should be emailed to Payroll designee. Ensure electronic time cards are complete. Communicate with bus drivers regarding any requested leave and/or missing punches as it relates to their time card. Gather, maintain and organize required items for successful State Compliance Review (clean buses, all applicable records such as pre-trip sheets, bus inspections, repair records, route maps, evacuation drills, driver physicals, drug tests, etc.). Schedule and notify all drivers of appropriate recertification dates and maintain file of driver’s completion of such. Train, respond and file various requests from State of Alabama Department of Education including the completion of the annual Transportation Route Report and Bus Report. Submit finalized reports via the AIM portal. Work with approved vendors concerning specifications for new buses and acceptability of purchasing used buses. Work with Transportation Director regarding buses deemed to be excess capital/surplus. Purchase and store bus supplies by adhering to proper financial procedures using approved purchase orders and correct financial codes. Maintain a caring and helpful attitude with all users and bus coordinators. Continually seek to recruit and train quality drivers. Other duties as assigned

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

: 184 Days, 7.5 hours (50% driving, 50% scheduling/managing)

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policies on evaluation of personnel.
