ABOUT THE ROLE

Our employees are our most valuable resource. Our bus drivers are integral to AIDB’s transportation team, which provides services throughout the organization. The Bus Driver provides a safe environment for AIDB’s students and consumers. The Bus Driver will communicate on a 2-way radio and/or cellular phone to ensure trip safety. While following AIDB policies and procedures, the transportation team serves students at Alabama School for the Deaf, Alabama School for the Blind, the Helen Keller School, and E.H. Gentry. The Bus Drivers report to the Director of Transportation.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a High School diploma or General Equivalency diploma. Must hold current, valid Alabama CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsement.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

One (1) year of experience working with individuals who are Deaf and/or Hard-of-Hearing.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Must pass the Managing Crisis Safely (MCS) Class within the first twelve (12) months of employment and maintain certification throughout this position. Must be insurable under AIDB’s fleet policy. Must register with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearing House upon employment and comply with all its requirements during tenure. Must have CPR/First Aide training completed Provide safe and timely transportation for AIDB’s students or clients. Abide by all federal, state, local, and AIDB rules, regulations, laws, and policies. Complete and turn in all paperwork required by the AIDB transportation department Keep the bus on a regular schedule. Never leave a student unattended at his/her stop without permission. Communicate efficiently on two (2) way radio and/or cellular phones. Will be responsible for the cleanliness of the bus interior. Handle and report discipline problems according to school guidelines. Be available for parent/student/principal conferences. Perform acceptable pre, post trip inspections and report any problems. Keep accurate and truthful time sheets for payroll purposes. Remain calm and handle emergencies as they arise. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director Upon being offered employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB .” .

SALARY:
