Other Personal Services (OPS) Supplemental positions, including Bus drivers, are used to describe positions that are part-time and temporary in nature. OPS jobs will normally be created for the accomplishment of short-term peak workload or periodic/intermittent tasks or projects for the college. OPS employees do not fill established positions, nor are they assigned the duties of any vacant authorized position. These positions will vary based on the need of the institution and include office, clerical, administrative, and/or manual labor positions. An OPS temporary employee can work up to 1040 hours (in a 12-month period) unless the employee meets the criteria for extension referenced in Rule 60L-33.005, Florida Administrative Code, and normally are not longer than a six-month employment period.
Examples of Duties Essential Functions/Duties:
Transport our Athletic teams to various sporting events throughout Central Florida and may include events outside Central Florida.
Times are mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. May include overnight travel. (Room & Meal allowance is provided)
Schedule is flexible based on your availability and the number of drivers available for each event.
Transport students between our main Lakeland & Winter Haven campuses, including our other campuses in Lake Wales and Bartow.
Perform bus driver duties in a safe, courteous, and efficient manner.
Obey all local, state, and traffic laws while operating the Polk State motor vehicles.
Must have a valid Florida Class C CDL with a clean driving record.
Transport Students/College Personnel
Regulate HVAC equipment on bus for the comfort of passengers
Drive carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations
Assume responsibility for the safety of passengers
Instruct passengers on rules required of passenger
Inspect bus interior before and after trip
Check fluid levels (water, gas, oil) before departing
Check tires and mechanical condition before departing
Keep operational records and trip reports to turn in weekly
Typical Qualifications Required Skills:
Good oral and written communication skills.
Excellent driving skills and knowledge of road/vehicle safety.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Required Education:
HS Diploma or equivalent required.
Required License:
Valid State of Florida Class C Driver’s License required. (Class C allows drivers to operate a vehicle with a GVWR of less than 26,001 that is used to transport more than 15 people.)
Preferred Experience:
Prefer previous experience operating transit buses or other commercial vehicles with a Class C license. Class C allows drivers to operate a vehicle with a GVWR of less than 26,001 that is used to transport more than 15 people. Bus driver positions earn an hourly rate of $15.00 per hour, per the Supplemental Salary Schedule.
