POSITION:
Head Bus Driver (Full-time / 12-month) 8 hours per day – 7:45 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. (includes 1-hour unpaid lunch)
ASSIGNMENT
WICSD District Office 321 List Avenue Rochester, New York 14617 POSITION
OVERVIEW
+ Directly supports the Transportation Director. + Assists in planning and communicating transportation routes for drivers to follow and prepare time schedule and location for bus stops. This includes receiving requests from parents and schools and communication to parties affected. + Troubleshoot general bussing concerns with contractors and schools. Directs issues of higher importance to supervisor. + Drives busses as is needed. + Works directly with the Director of Transportation to review budget information and enter purchase orders of the department. + Provides training to contracted drivers, in regard to school rules/procedures related to transportation. + Record keeping: maintains a variety of records. Establishes routine collection of data for compliance; including safety drills, monthly list of 19A qualified drivers from vendors, as well as accidents and incidents. + Field trips: planning, processing and communications. + Data entry within routing system and Microsoft products. + Other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
WICSD QUALIFICATIONS
+ High School Diploma. +
Bus Driver:
minimum 2 years experience. +
Transportation Routing:
prefer 1 year experience, but willing to train. + Knowledge of safety, procedures and traffic laws required for a bus driver. + Must hold a valid New York State Driver’s License AND a New York State CDL-B License with Class “P” and “S” Endorsements. + Eligible for a Monroe County Civil Service title of Head Bus Driver (must qualify for this title via a Civil Service Application; no Civil Service exam required for this non-competitive title–see Civil Service minimum qualifications below in job description).

$50,000 per year – $65,000 per year (commensurate with experience)

West Irondequoit CSD Head Bus Driver Job Summary:
Performs a variety of duties within our Transportation Department in order to not only support the daily needs of our students, parents and staff, but also directly supports the Director of Transportation.
Job Duties:
+ Assists with the coordinating, assignment and communication of bus routes and schedules. + Organizes, processes and communicates transportation requests, including requests from parents and schools requiring route changes (pick-up/drop-off locations and times). + Routing system management: enters student information, location of schools, routing, etc.. + Troubleshoots general bussing concerns received during AM and PM bus time in order to resolve. + Consults with the Director of Transportation on more difficult transportation issues in order to problem solve a solution. + Provides additional training to contracted drivers on school rules and procedures, as related to transportation. + Works with our contracted bussing vendors on a daily basis for various transportation issues. + Works with our Director of Transportation on budgetary items and enter purchase orders, as needed. + Drives a school bus on regular routes, special routes, and/or field trips when needed. + Record keeping: maintains a collection of records from vendors for audit purposes. (completed safety drills, school calendar request, 19 A list of qualified drivers from contractors) + Processes invoice reconciliations, purchase orders requests and payments (fuel, field trips, vendor invoices) + Field trips: process requests and manage communications. Provide Charter inspection tutorials. + Directly supports the Transportation Director. + Receives and refers complaints or questions concerning transportation services and assists in resolution. + Other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
Civil Service Title and Minimum Qualifications:
Head Bus Driver (non-competitive; no exam required, but must qualify for the title)
Minimum Qualifications:
EITHER (A) Two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in the operation of a school bus; OR, (B) One (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as an auto maintenance mechanic; plus one (1) year of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as defined in (A) above; OR, (C) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s degree in Automotive Technology or a closely related field, plus one (1) year of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as defined in (A) above; OR, (D) One (1) year paid full-time or it’s part-time equivalent experience as a bus driver or truck driver from a common carrier, plus one (1) year of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as defined in (A) above; OR, (E) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), (C) and (D) above.
