Job Description

un ⚐ ⚑ ⚑ Mechanic Experienced with Ford 7.5L (460cc) V8 Engine (Williamson) compensation: Hourly rate for working on the vehicle; separate rate for travel to and from its location. I am looking to hire a mechanic with strong experience in the maintenance and repair of a (circa 1997) Ford Heavy-Duty 7.5L (460cc) V8 Engine, which is in a Ford F53 Chassis supporting a Fleetwood Bounder RV. The engine was running very well and reliably and I drove the vehicle for three different multi-hour trips. On the last trip (last weekend), while returning, the engine suddenly lost most of its power. I was able to force it to go several more miles by rapidly pumping the gas pedal. But at a certain point that no longer worked; and the engine would not start up again. The vehicle is NOT out of fuel and the on-board generator—which gets its fuel from the same tank but a using a different fuel pump—continues to work just fine. Apparently this model and vintage motor is know for sometimes having a fuel-related problem with this type of symptom. Assuming it is a fuel issue, there are several potential suspect areas: fuel pressure regulator, clogged fuel return line, failed fuel pump, fuel pump clogged by debris in gas tank, clogged fuel filter, failed vapor canister solenoid, corroded wires or connectors, or perhaps something else. Or maybe it’s not the fuel system at all! Since the vehicle is not running or driveable, I would need you to go to where the vehicle is located to troubleshoot and resolve the issue(s) that prevents it from being driveable. On weekends or evenings I can be available to assist. Once the vehicle is drivable I’m open to bringing it to wherever is most convenient for you to work on it further. I would like to have all belts and hoses checked, And worn items replaced. I’m open to replacing engine items given the age of the vehicle and mileage (~60k miles) I have purchased the Ford Service Manual for the engine and chassis and subsystems. I am hoping that you to have available a fuel pressure gauge and an OBD1 diagnostic device. If not, I may be willing to purchase those. I am not sure that my documentation includes the Powertrain Control/Emission Diagnostic (PC/ED) manual. Let’s discuss an hourly rate for working on the vehicle as well as a separate rate for travel to and from its location. Jack Prewitt Rochester, NY post id: 7868807543 updated: ♥ [ ]
