PILOT – JOB DESCRIPTION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Chief pilots play a key role in the success of a flight school/academy. This leadership position requires you to provide experience and oversight to flight instructors while continuing to teach students in-flight and during ground (academic) lessons. Chief pilots are responsible for initial and continuing education of our instructor staff, as well as program management/leadership for our students to ensure that they are progressing effectively and efficiently.

Responsibilities include:

Oversees continuing education of flight instructors. Ensures proper coordination, implementation, and execution of student programs and makes recommendations for the continuous improvement of Aberdeen High Flight Academy training. Reviews individual student’s progress with flight and ground instructors to guarantee each student is receiving the quality education that WE promise. Evaluate flight instructor development and student progress through flight and simulator instruction. Oversee the launch and close of each day’s training initiatives to the max extent practical. Provides leadership and management of pilots & subordinate staff, schedules, and records to maintain efficient and safe flight operations, comply with all Federal Aviation Administration regulations, and deliver operational performance on flight academy goals. Maintains the required Federal Aviation Administration records and documentation for certifications, crews, flight times, aircraft, and activity. Being a Chief Pilot keeps informed about current aviation developments and regulations that impact flight operations

REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION

Must hold a current Federal Aviation Administration Certified Flight Instructor AND Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument certificates to teach Private Pilot, Instrument Pilot, & Commercial Pilot Flight and Ground School Course.

EXPERIENCE

Previous flight and ground school instruction experience is required. Must meet all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations Part 61 and/or 141 minimums. 1500 total flight hours minimum

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to identify problems or potential problems and develop and implement solutions. Multitasking capabilities. Leadership with the ability to develop both instructors and students. Passion for instructing, teaching, and helping people reach their aviation goals. Flexibility and availability to our students.

KNOWLEDGE

Practical knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations, Fundamentals of Instruction, Practical Test Standards, Airmen Certification Standards, aircraft systems, aerodynamics, and airworthiness requirements Candidates must possess the experience and skills necessary to motivate and convey knowledge to multiple groups and individuals in a classroom/group setting. Good interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment and to maintain effective working relations with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office proficiency.

EQUIPMENT/MACHINERY USED

General office equipment such as facsimile, copier, personal computer, etc. Position will require vehicle operation such as academy aircraft, van, truck, golf cart, etc.

PHYSICAL AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

The associate will be working in many environments inside and outside the facility. Associate will have exposure to aircraft, flight training devices, and other equipment. This position requires the utilization of most types of aircraft that Aberdeen High Flight Academy incorporates in its programs. May require prolonged periods of sitting or standing. May be required to lift between 25 and 50 lbs. occasionally. Some out-of-state travel may be required. OTHERS Extreme attention to detail. Self-starter who does not wait for others to provide work, finds ways to keep busy or help others. Works with minimal supervision. Innovative/creative, improves ways of doing things to increase efficiency for the organization, administrators, and scholars. Flexible and adaptable team player. Ability to accomplish administrative tasks concerning the flight academy.
