Duties and Responsibilities

Operates rotary-wing aircraft in support of the aerial application of insecticides.
Maintains technical proficiency and ensures compliance with all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements related to instrument flight rules, congested area flights, and low altitude flying.
Maintains flight log and record of activities.
Performs daily inspection of aircraft; conducts required flight inspections, fuel servicing, weather and flight clearances to ensure aircraft readiness and safety.
Maintains aircraft maintenance records and schedules inspections, maintenance, and repairs as needed and in compliance with regulations.
Calibrates aerial and ground spray applications systems to maintain proper and safe operation.
When not performing air operations may operate airboat and work in conjunction with ground inspectors to coordinate inspections of difficult areas to access.
May supervise part-time helicopter pilots.
When not performing air operations may be included in ground operation missions to operate a ULV spray truck.
Functions as the unit safety officer, preparing and conducting safety meetings with the unit.
Makes public presentations as required.
Performs other related duties as required.
Job Specifications
Knowledge of FAA rules and regulations governing flight operations.
Knowledge of aircraft operation and control, including instrumentation, weather, emergency procedures, radio communications, and navigation.
Knowledge of providing service for people with disabilities, use of proper etiquette, and special accommodations relating to transportation.
Knowledge of night vision systems.
Skill in landing an aircraft in a remote, undeveloped area.
Skill in operating computer-based aircraft systems.
Ability to speak in public and explain controversial issues.
Ability to pilot rotary wing aircraft.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain logs and records.

Minimum Qualifications Required
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; AND
An FAA Commercial Pilot License with a rotorcraft-helicopter rating; AND
A minimum of 500 hours of turbine engine helicopter flying; AND
Experience in low level, nap of the earth, or agricultural spraying or dusting flight time as first pilot; AND A current FAA Flight Medical Certificate (Class II) with no waivers.
Emergency Management Responsibilities
In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s department, the County’s Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency/disaster.
