PURPOSE OF

CLASSIFICATIONThe purpose of this classification is to assist in the planning, coordination, implementation, and directing of training programs for the Fire Department staff. This position is responsible for assisting with all aspects of personnel training and evaluation of skills necessary to fulfill the various job functions within the ranks of the fire department. This position also assists with the forecasting of future training departmental needs, coordination of efforts to teach, and maintain records to demonstrate minimum training needs are met or exceeded.

This position reports to the Assistant Fire Chief of Administrative & Support Services Division.•

NOTE:

This is an hourly position. The individual in this classification will work primarily Monday to Friday but his/her schedule could have days off during the week and be required to work weekends in order to fullfill the training needs of the department.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONSThe following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Assist with planning, coordination, developing and delivering training and related staff development programs; identifies training needs; assist with establishing training schedules to include training for new hires, progressive development training, in-service programs and remedial training as needed; assist with developing and/or customizes training courses, content and materials; oversees, coordinates and/or delivers training; evaluates effectiveness; makes suggestions for changes necessary to improve training and outcome. Schedules and assist with administration with outside regulatory authorities; Georgia Fire Academy, Standards and Training, ISO.Assist with quality assurance for assigned programs and operations; performs quality reviews as dictated by policy; prepares quality assurance reports, graphs and records; and identifies policy or procedural changes to improve quality assurance as appropriate. Maintains records and reports pertaining to all departmental training and other outside training.

Assist with evaluating recruits for proficiency. Assist with promotional process coordinated with administrative staff, publish testing procedures and test documents for promotion.

Conducts supervisory responsibility in accordance with County policies, procedures, and applicable laws; maintains the training division, records; performs background checks on full-time and volunteer personnel, including driving history and criminal history as requested.

Assist with planning, coordinating and implementing public awareness and educational programs.

Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws/regulations; maintains an awareness of new trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.

Assist Chief of Administrative & Support Services Division in the preparation of operational budgets for the department; prepares records and reports as requested by the Chief/Assistant Chief.

As requested, will assist in inspections of all buildings, apparatus, equipment, stand-by emergency generators, and grounds at all fire stations, to insure they are in good working order at all times; assists increating and designing plans and specifications for fire stations, training facilities, fire apparatus, and other response vehicles, using all available sources of information for the project to meet the needs of the department and the community it serves;performs maintenance of non-emergency equipment, phone lines, uninterrupted power sources, furnishings, emergency generators, heating and air conditioning systems, andother maintenance tasks.

Speaks effectively to the public and private groups and organizations about fire services; answers questions about each organization.

May be assigned as the Office in Charge of a Battalion in the absence of the Battalion Chief.

Operates a computer, calculator, office equipment, firefighting apparatus, breathing apparatus, generators, gas meters, electrician’s tools, medical equipment, hand tools, carpenter’s tools, extrication tools, rescue boats, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system software.

ADDITIONAL

FUNCTIONSPerforms a variety of general maintenance tasks, including cleaning offices, painting structures, washing vehicles, repairing computers, making minor electrical and plumbing repairs, repairing equipment and furniture, changing air conditioning filters, adding toner to copier and facsimile machine, and changing ink cartridges in printers.

Runs errands; delivers supplies. Performs other related duties as required.
