An individual designated as a “Floater” does not have a set schedule, accepts assignments as needed, and fills in vacant shifts on short notice. Tasks involved in the job of a Direct Service Worker could include: Companionship for a person who cannot be left alone because of a physical or cognitive impairment. Teaching adults with disabilities skills necessary to manage living by themselves. Assisting a child who has physical disabilities to participate in everyday school activities. Helping someone with bathing, dressing, toileting, or getting in and out of bed. Checking a person’s temperature, pulse, blood pressure or taking their medicine. Assisting people with grocery shopping, running errands and community recreation. Helping with meal preparation, eating, or housekeeping.
