The Deckhand assists with dock and seawall construction operations on a barge, working under the supervision of the Crane Operator. Responsibilities include handling materials, operating deck equipment, maintaining the vessel, and ensuring a safe work environment. This physically demanding role requires teamwork, attention to safety, and experience in marine construction or heavy labor.

Key Responsibilities:
Construction & Barge Operations:

Assist in dock and seawall construction by handling tools, materials, and equipment. Secure and transport pilings, lumber, steel, concrete, and other construction supplies. Help position and stabilize the barge for crane and pile-driving operations. Assist in rigging and signaling during crane lifts and material movements.

Deck & Equipment Maintenance:

Operate and maintain deck machinery, such as winches, ropes, and rigging. Keep the deck clean and organized to ensure a safe and efficient workspace. Perform routine maintenance, including rust removal, painting, and minor repairs.

Safety & Compliance:

Follow all maritime and construction safety procedures. Assist in securing the barge at job sites using mooring lines and anchors. Participate in safety drills and emergency response training.

Additional Duties:

Support welders, carpenters, and heavy equipment operators as needed. Monitor weather and water conditions to ensure safe operations. Assist with vessel movements and navigation when required.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Experience in marine construction, deckhand duties, or heavy labor preferred. Knowledge of rigging, crane signals, and basic maritime operations is a plus. Physically capable of lifting heavy materials and working in challenging conditions. Strong teamwork and communication skills. Ability to follow safety procedures and comply with OSHA and maritime regulations. Must pass a drug test and meet other regulatory requirements.

Work Environment:

Work takes place outdoors on the water in varying weather conditions. Requires physical endurance, balance, and the ability to handle heavy loads. May involve extended hours, including early mornings.
