Job Description

Overview The Fleet Utility Worker is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of Kirby’s barge fleet land-based and floating facilities along the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. This role involves working across all Kirby fleet locations in the region, using a company vehicle to service these sites, and ensuring operational readiness through hands-on tasks in a marine environment. Responsibilities Work across all Kirby fleet locations between Baton Rouge and New Orleans to maintain land-based and floating facilities. Coordinate fleet and facility services, including general upkeep of grounds and barge mooring equipment. Use a company vehicle to service locations in the Louisiana River area. Purchase supplies for day-to-day operations and manage inventory of emergency and hurricane response equipment. Oversee daily management of waste facilities (trash, oil, etc.). Complete projects assigned by Fleet Maintenance management, including miscellaneous repairs. Operate small equipment (e.g., lawn equipment, tractor, ATV) for facility maintenance. Be available to work occasional weekends as needed.

Qualifications Required Job Skills:

Current and valid driver’s license with a good driving record. TWIC Card. Capable of occasional heavy lifting (lift and carry up to 50 lbs). General knowledge of computers for basic tasks. Light carpentry skills and knowledge of general construction/repairs. Well-rounded and hands-on, with the ability to work in a marine environment. Prior deckhand or marine industry experience (highly preferred but not required). Welding experience for small repairs (preferred).

Hours:

6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Must adapt to changing work schedules, weather conditions, and working around water.

Education:

High school diploma or GED.

Experience:

Marine, mechanical, or construction experience preferred; deckhand or marine background is highly attractive but not required.
