Description:

General Statement of Duties This is chauffeur related work in the operation of a passenger bus. Work involves providing and ensuring periodic maintenance and proper operation of the Departments wheelchair lift bus or large passenger bus. Work requires driver to make and follow established routes. Work requires use of tact and interpersonal skills with patrons. Work also requires safe and appropriate use of vehicles in accordance with City policies and traffic regulations. Work is performed under general supervision and driver may be asked to fill in for Van Driver on an as needed basis. Distinguishing Features of the Class Drives to and from the program site; may run a multi-load shuttle; may wait for patrons at the program. Assures that vehicles are properly maintained and serviced, reports repair needs to supervisor, and completes vehicle condition checklist (including fluids, belts, interior/exterior conditions, etc.) before each time he/she drives; takes vehicle to and from city garage for fuel and minor repairs. The individual is responsible for maintaining both vehicular and departmental records, as well as submitting vehicle condition and mileage reports when necessary. May perform as a van driver substitute. Ensures safe loading, travel, and unloading of passengers with disabilities. Administers basic first aid, if necessary. Performs related tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Applicants must enjoy working with youth and have demonstrated supervisory experience with youth. Knowledge of group recreational supervision and the rules and regulations governing various competitive athletic games. Ability to organize and actively facilitate/instruct a variety of recreational and social activities. Ability to adhere to program standards and objectives outlined by supervisors. Excellent character, integrity, and adaptability. Ability to prepare clear and precise written reports. Ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public. Ability to keep inventory records. Ability to communicate, demonstrate, teach, and provide program opportunities for a diverse group of youth at various ages and skill levels. Knowledge of prevention education and positive alternate concepts. Ability to maintain program records and prepare clear and precise written reports. Ability to meet and deal with the public. Ability to deal with “at risk” and “high risk” youth as identified by prevention education standards. Additionally, your physical capabilities should allow you to actively participate in the daily programs. For instance, you should be able to walk, run, hike, swim, lift, and jump.

Requirements:

Requirements of Work Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age and have a high school diploma or GED. Must have at least three (3) years of driving experience, with at least one (1) year of which is in the operation of vehicles currently requiring a CDL driver’s license (i.e., bus, truck, etc.). Basic first aid certification is preferred. Knowledge of traffic Knowledge of Henderson Street locations. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and read maps. Valid NC CDL Class “B” Driver’s license with Passenger Endorsement. Prefer Airbrake’s endorsement as well. Applicant must positively pass pre-employment drug screen, physical examination, and background check. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license and knowledge of laws and regulations governing operation of CDL vehicles.
