Full Job Description Role Overview:
The Meals on Wheels Delivery Driver will play a key role in ensuring our meals reach clients safely and on time. This individual will be responsible for driving, meal delivery, vehicle maintenance, and observing client well-being during the delivery process. The ideal candidate is reliable, compassionate, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Key Responsibilities:
Safely maintain and follow a designated delivery route to ensure timely meal deliveries to clients. Monitor food temperatures during transport and report any discrepancies to the Site Coordinator. Ensure adherence to the planned meal menus and communicate any changes as needed. Assist in meal pick-up and delivery to homebound seniors, maintaining a focus on service and care. Return completed paperwork and report any missed deliveries. Safely store undelivered meals as required. Adhere to all traffic safety rules and exercise sound judgment while driving, especially in high-traffic or inclement weather conditions. Assist in Senior Program locations as needed. Observe clients and their environment, reporting any concerns or safety issues to the team. Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report any maintenance or operational issues promptly. Conduct daily vehicle inspections to ensure it is in good working condition and up-to-date with all necessary registrations and insurance. Keep accurate logs of deliveries, including mileage, gasoline use, and contributions collected. Assist in optimizing delivery schedules to minimize travel time and maximize efficiency. Return the vehicle to its designated parking area at the end of each shift.
Qualifications:
Valid New York State driver’s license with a clean driving record. At least 2 years of driving experience in New York City or other high-traffic areas. Ability to use GPS navigation effectively. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Empathy for the needs of homebound seniors, with the ability to handle sensitive situations with care. Ability to work independently while also collaborating as part of a team. Willingness to complete Elder Abuse Training after being hired. Must pass a thorough background check and drug test. English fluency required; bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus. No more than one moving violation during the past 24 months. Must provide 2 written references.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Work standing or walking for extended periods. Perform physical tasks such as bending, squatting, and repetitive motions. Comfortable working in all weather conditions. Comfortable working in a fast-paced and high-volume environment. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities.
