New England EcoAdventures operates BUZZWORTHY, a 14 passenger, 30′ RIB Boat out of Portland, ME and invites applications for the position of USCG Certified Captain. New England EcoAdventures seeks Captains to operate
BUZZWORTHY
on a 2/3-day per week basis July through October. New England EcoAdventures offers multiple tour experiences, Scenic Adventures, Lighthouse Tours, Whale Watching, and Private Charters. The Captain is responsible for supervising the vessel and crew. The Captain is fully responsible for the safety of the ship’s passengers, and crew, as for the vessel itself. Responsible for maintaining a safe course, using standard navigation aids, such as compass, sextant, and clock. Steers vessels and operates electronic equipment, such as radio, sonic depth finder, and radar. Records daily activities in ship’s log. This position requires an extremely detail orientated person with a strong emphasis on safety, customer service, punctuality, and hospitality. The vessel will be yours and should be treated as such. Due to the nature of this business, this position is required to work a flexible schedule varying from the morning, day, evening, overnight shifts, and holidays. The day-to-day responsibilities include but are not limited to: Responsible for all operations aboard the vessel, including but not limited to navigation, safety, and medical care of everyone aboard (both guests and crew), protection of the environment in compliance with the company’s policies, local authorities, and International Maritime Law The Captain has a full authority to make executive decisions in order to preserve the life and safety of the ship’s personnel and guest and must apply extreme care and proper judgment according to any given situation Ensures that the staff is aware of all aspects of operations of the ship Fully responsible for crisis management and course of action in case of emergency Ensures that all ship’s charts, documents, certifications are up to date and compliant with the company’s policies and local authorities requirements Makes sure that all safety equipment – lifeboats, life rafts, watertight doors, splash doors, fire doors, sprinkler systems, etc. are in proper working condition Ensures that all new crew members are instructed regarding their emergency duties according to the cruise line safety policy Makes sure that the ship is seaworthy in all respects and prepared for the conditions anticipated for the voyage including correct trim and stability Supervises crew engaged in cleaning and maintenance Assist in the training of any approved Captain Trainees The requirements for this position include but are not limited to: Knowledge and Skills Able to communicate in a friendly and professional manner with all customers, team members, and management Knowledge of products, services, and hours of operation Common boat handling skills Follow communication etiquette guidelines at all times Simple navigation knowledge Must be punctual Physical Demands Ability to stand and exert well-paced ability Ability to work in an outdoor environment with various weather conditions regularly Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability, and visual acuity Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment Credentials and Experience Must have a USCG Captain’s License!! Near Coastal Endorsement Basic Safety Training / First Aid Training CPR Certified Previous boat handling experience 25 Ton Master Coast Guard License APCA (USCG)
Mandatory Random Drug Testing Program Radio License Experience:
