Sanitation Truck Driver Position Available In Russell, Alabama

The Russell County Sanitation Department is responsible to the Russell County Commission for the sanitation within Russell County not otherwise the responsibility of the State of Alabama or an incorporated area within the County.

• MUST HAVE CDL LICENSE AND MEET ALL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• -Class A CDL license and current CDL documentation-MAJOR

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operates a recycling vehicle. Supervises and trains back men and inmates; ensures that workers and inmates observe safety guidelines. Inspects and maintains the trucks. Assists other drivers as needed. Performs special pick-ups as required. Prepares daily logs of work completed. Must be able to perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of supervisory techniques. Knowledge of safety regulations. Knowledge of the layout of the county. Knowledge of operation of a truck and vehicle maintenance. Skills in the operation of equipment such as two-way radio. Skill in oral and written communication.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Alabama for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity and distinguishes between shades of color. This position is a safety sensitive position.
