Position Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Skilled work in the care and operation of all refuse collection vehicles which are used to collect refuse and trash from residences and to a lesser extent, businesses. Work is performed under the supervision of the Operations Manager Services.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Operates, lifts and dumps refuse containers into refuse collection vehicle. Drives garbage collection vehicles. Manually retrieve and collect incidental related waste at each pickup point. Exercises appropriate safety precautions while vehicle is in operation. Completes designated refuse collection route or routes in a timely manner. Judge heights and distances while truck is in operation. Operates boom mounted trash truck. Performs daily inspection of vehicle. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of operation, maintenance, capabilities, limitations and safety aspects of refuse collection vehicle. Ability to understand and comply with oral instructions. Ability to read street and traffic signs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, supplemented by two (2) years’ experience in the operation of heavy trucks. (A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications).
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid Class “B” Commercial Florida Driver’s License.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS
Acceptable vision (with or without correction). Heavy (45 pounds and over) lifting and carrying. Reaching, pulling, walking, standing, bending, stooping, driving, equipment operation.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
