Special Worker Driver – Mosquito Control 3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars 801 South St, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168 Major Functions The County of Volusia is seeking a Special Worker – Driver for the Mosquito Control Division. This position is located in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and will be responsible for: driving a pickup truck with an Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) spray system at night. This work requires nighttime availability during the mosquito season between the hours of 6:00 pm and 6:00 am, start time and shift hours will vary. Additional daytime hours may be available based on operational need. Candidates must be able to work with pesticides, while using all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Duties include the application of products approved for the control of mosquitoes; performing surveillance (setting and collecting mosquito traps); gathering data and inputting information; and interacting with people in the community while performing service-related requests with experienced staff. •This is a Temporary Position contingent to the need for services. The selected candidate will not be eligible for county-offered benefits•Illustrative Duties (

Operates a Volusia County vehicle with or without an Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) application system during assigned work hours. Treatments for adult mosquitoes are conducted after sunset and before sunrise. Operates a laptop computer in the ULV truck for mission guidance and treatment tracking. May perform mosquito population surveys in the field utilizing traps and landing rate counts. Collects data electronically as required, manages data input utilizing a laptop or desktop computer as required. May be assigned to perform house inspections with a team and/or supervisor in the community. May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs. Attends work on a regular and consistent basis. Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances. Responds to emergency situations. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license at the time of hire. Must be able to use a computer, computer software, and other electronic devices. Must be able to obtain a Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Public Health Pest Control license within four (4) months of hire. Experience working with pesticides is a plus!

NOTE :

Selected candidate must pass a pre-employment background and driving record check, and a physical test. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to interpret and follow directions. Ability to interpret maps, Global Positioning System (GPS) navigational aids, and navigate safely on roadways. Ability to complete assignment within the project time period. Ability to utilize a laptop, and/or comparable device. Ability to use computer programs/software. Ability to work independently. Ability to interact effectively with others including the public. Ability to work in the field under harsh conditions including, but not limited to, extreme heat, humidity, cold, rain and flooding conditions. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing to groups and individuals. Ability to respond to emergency situations. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work under stressful conditions. Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.

Physical Demands:

Medium work. Ability to traverse undeveloped, uneven, wet, broken terrain, wooded, marshy areas. Ability to see, talk, hear, reach, walk, bend, squat, kneel, grasp. Ability to lift 40 pounds. Visual acuity (peripheral vision and depth perception) necessary to operate a motorized vehicle.

Environmental Demands:

Inside and outside work. Ability to tolerate inclement weather including rain, humidity, heat, and cold. Potential exposure to saltwater, chemicals, insects, toxic plants, snakes, salt air, mud, dust, confined spaces, and poor ventilation.

Mental Demands:

Ability to read and comprehend manuals; instructions, procedures, memos, letters. Ability to perform shop math. Ability to speak clearly and concisely to public and laymen.

Ability to write:
