Truck Driver/Laborer Position Available In Hampden, Massachusetts

Truck Driver/Laborer The Town of Longmeadow, MA DPW is seeking qualifiedapplicants for two (2) FT positions of Truck Driver/Laborer. Responsiblefor the performance of semi-skilled manual work in the maintenance,construction, and repair of municipal properties, roads, and the overallcompletion of public works-related projects. Ensures the safety ofmunicipal property, parks, fields, and streets for the general public;removes snow and ice, trims trees, mows grass and roadways, cuts backroadside brush, performs tree work, sweeps roads, maintains and repairsfield and park areas, collects leaves, constructs sidewalks and curbing,patches roads, and performs a variety of street maintenance functions aswell as other related public works functions.

Successful candidate musthave:

Working knowledge of the safe and effective operation andmechanics of light and heavy equipment and machinery, hand tools, andcemetery operations. Working knowledge of the occupational hazards andsafety precautions of the trade. Knowledge of hydraulics. Ability tocommunicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to meetdeadlines. Ability to work independently. Ability to read and interpretconstruction project plans, pay careful attention to details, andperform work under extreme weather conditions for long periods of time.

Ability to interact effectively with all other utilities. Ability torecognize unsafe working conditions to ensure that appropriate safetyprecautions are taken. Ability to be self-motivated. Ability to operatea wide range of construction equipment including hand and pneumatictools and power equipment effectively and safely. Ability to completeassigned work under adverse weather conditions and to work long,extended hours during unplanned emergencies such as snow storms orfloods. Basic motor and mechanical skills required in the safe andefficient operation of department equipment, tools, and department Highschool diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of related experience;or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, andexperience. Current valid motor vehicle license; Class B CommercialDriver’s License with Air Brake and Tanker Endorsements required, withClass A Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake and TankerEndorsements preferred. OSHA 10 and Asbestos pipe safety training.

Required to be on call as needed to respond to emergencies Salary$22.65- $24.04 per hour DOE/DOQ; excellent benefits.
