POSITION OVERVIEW
Through education and driving skillsdevelopment, become proficient in the operation of a straight truckpicking up and delivering freight between service centers andcustomer locations. Responsibilities include non-driving dutiessuch as forklift operation and working the dock.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
Operate straight trucks. Perform pre-trip, post-trip,and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment Perform freighthandling work using appropriate motorized and manual equipment,including, but not limited to, forklift, pallet jack, and handtruck Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools andsupplies, including, but not limited to, pallets, straps, and ropeRecoup/repair damaged freight when necessary Verify and completerequired documentation and reports Collect checks for freightcharges and maintain related documentation, as required Comply withhazardous material regulations and company procedures, and confirmplacarding matches hazmat shipments, as required Communicate withand follow Dispatch instructions regarding events including, butnot limited to, delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc., asrequired Demonstrate internal and external customer serviceCommunicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivessry needsAsk customers for additional business, and provide leads to salesfor potential new opportunities Chain vehicle tires, as requiredComply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as companypolicies/procedures Perform other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess Class B CommercialDriver’s License (CDL) or Commercial Learning Permit (CLP) prior toentering job classification. Automatic transmission CDL restrictionallowed. Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) basedon hiring standards Must meet all Department of Transportation(DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FederalMotor Carrier (FMC) regulations Ability to count and perform basicmath, with or without a calculator Ability to read and understandroute schedules Ability to lift/carry hand freight and other itemsweighing up to 100 pounds, several times a week Ability to sit forextended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out oftruck Ability to follow instructions and complete required trainingAbility to work independently and/or as a team member
WORKINGCONDITIONS
Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors anddrive on all types of roads in all types of weather Exposure tonoise and vibration Exposure to dust and diesel fumes Exposure tohazardous materials shipped and packaged under DOT regulationsHours may vary due to operational need
