CCATS Driver (CDL) Full-time CCATS Driver The Job Carteret County Government is seeking a full-time CDL Driver to join the CCATS team. The Location Office location is at the General Services office in Morehead City, NC, but drivers service Carteret County. The Details Salary is $33,940.40 (must possess active CDL). Performs intermediate, semi-skilled work in the operation of a van or other transit vehicles to assure the safe transportation of passengers to and from various destinations. Employee may be called upon in case of disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Carteret County. This service, if required, will take precedence over duties described in this position as directed by the Transportation Operations Manager. Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class performs duties related to the delivery of public and human service transportation services. The employee will be assigned to a daily route and be required to be punctual and courteous to customers. The employee must exercise independent judgment and initiative in performing duties. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Transportation Operations Manager and is evaluated through observation of work, periodic conferences, attendance, punctuality and feedback from general public. Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Tasks
- Responsible for the safety of vehicles and passengers.
- Performs daily inspections of vehicle for fluid and oil levels as well as tires, water and battery and lifts; responsible for keeping vehicle clean and free of debris.
- Assists all passengers in boarding and departing from vehicle, including packages.
- Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions.
- Maintains accurate records as required; delivers required records to dispatcher daily.
- Operates two-way radio, reports unusual traffic conditions, bus condition, passenger emergencies or other problems.
- Adheres to vehicle schedules to ensure passengers arrive at their destination on time.
- Operates transit vehicle on an assigned route and schedule as assigned by dispatcher.
- Wears uniforms while on duty.
- Reports any vehicle problems immediately to the dispatcher.
- Follows prescribed policies and procedures as directed. Recruitment and Selection Guidelines
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Thorough knowledge of regional traffic rules and regulations.
- Thorough knowledge of the geography of the County.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of passengers (ie: medical information).
- Ability to operate passenger vehicles and related equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ability to remain alert and to remain calm during periods of stress.
- Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public.
- Ability to keep records and prepare reports.
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
- Ability to operate a personal computer or tablet.
- Ability to perform simple math functions such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
- Ability to read maps; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public. Physical Requirements
- Work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force.
- Work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and lifting.
- Work has standard vision requirements.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
- Work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
- Work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, frequently requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock, exposure to vibration and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
- Work is generally in a loud noise location (e.
g. vehicle noise, heavy traffic). Desirable Education and Experience
Graduation from high school and moderate experience in driving transit vehicles; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirements
Possession of a valid North Carolina Class Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
Must be 21 years of age with a minimum of 3 years driving experience.
