Program Manager Job Summary:
The NEMT Driver is responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation services for clients in need of non-emergency medical transportation. The driver’s duties include ensuring timely transport to and from medical appointments while adhering to safety regulations and customer service standards. Additionally, the NEMT Driver is expected to maintain vehicle cleanliness, comply with state and company policies, and promote positive interactions with passengers.
Key Responsibilities:
Transport clients to and from medical appointments and healthcare facilities safely and on time. Assist clients boarding and disembarking the vehicle, including those with physical disabilities or mobility challenges. Maintain a clean, safe, and mechanically sound vehicle, conducting routine vehicle checks and reporting necessary repairs. Follow company guidelines on vehicle operation and safety procedures, including wearing seatbelts, obeying traffic laws, and using GPS for navigation. Provide courteous and professional customer service, ensuring client comfort and addressing any concerns during the trip. Document trip details, including client information, mileage, and arrival/departure times, using electronic or paper logs. Follow company policies related to confidentiality, HIPAA, and proper handling of client information. Communicate with dispatch or the office regarding route updates, delays, or any transportation-related issues. Assist with the operation of wheelchair lifts, securing wheelchairs in the vehicle, and using other accessibility equipment as necessary. Participate in regular training sessions on vehicle safety, infection control, and company procedures.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Previous experience as a driver (preferred), especially in a healthcare or NEMT setting.
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. CPR and First Aid Certification (preferred or required within 30 days of hire).
Skills:
Strong communication skills and customer service orientation. Knowledge of local routes and familiarity with using GPS systems. Ability to assist individuals with mobility challenges in and out of the vehicle. Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and safety checks.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift to 50 lbs. when assisting clients with mobility equipment. Ability to sit for extended periods and drive long distances. Must assist clients in and out of vehicles safely, including operating wheelchair lifts or other adaptive devices.
Work Environment:
Primarily in a vehicle, with exposure to various weather conditions. Interaction with a diverse population of clients, including individuals with physical or cognitive disabilities.
