Loading and Unloading:

Using hand trucks, dollies, pallet jacks, and other equipment to move cargo on and off the flatbed.

Load Securement:

Distributing weight evenly, securing loads with straps, chains, and edge protectors, and tarps.

Maintaining Vehicle and Load:

Regularly checking the load’s securement during the trip, adjusting straps and chains as needed, and cleaning the flatbed.

Paperwork and Documentation:

Updating delivery logs, managing paperwork like rate confirmation documents and bills of lading.

Communication:

Communicating with dispatchers and drivers regarding schedules, routes, and any issues encountered during transit.

Navigation:

Helping with directions, re-routing, and GPS use.

Other Tasks:

Depending on the job, helpers may also assist with tasks like fuel stops, cleaning the truck, and reporting incidents to the dispatcher Operate forklifts and other equipment as needed for loading and unloading tasks. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area, including trucks and trailers. Help with the inspection of vehicles, including refrigerated trailers, dump trucks, and tractor-trailers, to ensure they are in good working condition. Follow all safety protocols while handling freight and operating machinery. Qualifications Previous experience as a delivery driver or in route driving is preferred. Familiarity with operating tractor-trailers, refrigerated trailers, dump trucks, or tankers is a plus. Ability to load and unload freight safely and efficiently. Forklift certification is advantageous but not mandatory; training may be provided. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately. Excellent communication skills and ability to work well within a team environment. Must be physically capable of performing manual labor tasks associated with loading/unloading freight.
