A teammate in this position learns the essential functions ofthe Driver job including the accurate and timely distribution ofproducts to various customer locations. The Driver Trainee gainsexposure to warehouse and other operational functions as part ofthe developmental process of becoming a McLane Driver.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Ateammate in this job will train side-by-side with a Driver Trainerto acquire the skills necessary to perform the following functions

• Maneuver tractor into position to attach trailer and handle linesto secure.
• Operates truck in a safe manner in compliance with alllocal, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
• Inspect tractor-trailer equipment for defects pre/post trip andsubmit DOT inspection report indicating condition.
• OperatesDriver Delivery Handheld (DDH), document delivery receipts/producttemperatures and exceptions. Inspects trailer to ensure product issecure for undamaged transport of product.
• Rides and trains withDriver Trainer of tractor-trailer to various destinations, gainingknowledge of commercial driving regulations and observing theDriver’s skill in starting engine properly, approachingintersections, making turns, backing, parking, and maneuveringvehicle on the road and on customer premises.
• Maintain driver log(Manual or PeopleNet) according to DOT regulations, documentingdelivery receipt, product temperatures and exceptions.
• Assiststhe Driver in unloading trailer and delivering product intocustomer premises.
• Provides customer service including on-timedelivery of undamaged product, product returns and issuing validcustomer credits.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma orGED preferred.
• Possess a Class A CDL.
• Be at least 21 years ofage.
• Meet eligibility requirements in the McLane Transfer andPromotion Policy.
• Ability and willingness to select/load/unloadand/or deliver ALL products that may be ordered by McLanecustomers.
• Read and comprehend labels, instructions, and bills oflading.
• Perform mathematical calculations to verify quantities ofproduct.
• Communicate with customers, management, and otherteammates.
• Safely drive a tractor-trailer, use a 2-wheeled dolly,ramp, and on board PeopleNet devices.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Theenvironment encompasses all areas of a distribution center,transportation department, shop and customer facilities.
• Workingconditions could contain moderate noise, vibration of vehicle andextreme weather conditions depending on climate.
• Regular andfrequent travel, including overnight.
