POSITION OVERVIEW
Through education and driving skillsdevelopment, become proficient in the operation of a tractortrailer combination. Responsibilities include non-driving dutiessuch as forklift operation and working the dock.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
1. Operate tractor-trailer combination, includingdoubles and/or straight trucks 2. Perform pre-trip, post-trip, andinter-trip safety inspections on equipment 3. Hook/unhook trailersand converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer 4. Performfreight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment,including, but not limited to, forklift, pallet jack, and handtruck 5. Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools andsupplies, including, but not limited to, pallets, straps, and rope6. Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary 7. Verify andcomplete required documentation and reports 8. Collect checks forfreight charges and maintain related documentation, as required 9.Comply with hazardous material regulations and company procedures,and confirm placarding matches hazmat shipments, as required 10.Communicate with and follow Dispatch instructions regarding eventsincluding, but not limited to, delays, arrivals, equipmentproblems, etc., as required 11. Demonstrate internal and externalcustomer service 12. Communicate with customers to determinepick-up or delivery needs 13. Ask customers for additionalbusiness, and provide leads to sales for potential newopportunities 14. Where operationally necessary, perform job dutiesof a road driver or freight handler 15. Chain vehicle tires, asrequired 16. Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as wellas company policies/procedures 17. Perform other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS
- Mustpossess a class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or a commerciallearning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification
- Mustpossess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiringstandards
- Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT)regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal MotorCarrier (FMC) regulations
- Ability to count and perform basicmath, with or without a calculator
- Basic written and verbalcommunication skills
- Ability to hook up and break down sets oftrailers that require an average lift force of approximately 100pounds, several times a day
- Ability to lift/carry hand freightweighing up to 100 pounds, several times a week
- Ability to sitfor extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and outof truck
- Ability to follow instructions and complete requiredtraining
- Ability to work independently and/or as a team member
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Drive day and night on all types of roads inall types of weather
- Exposure to noise and vibration
- Exposureto dust and diesel fumes
- Exposure to hazardous materials shippedand packaged under DOT regulations
- Hours may vary due tooperational need
