Garbage Truck Driver Summary of Responsibilities:

Full or Part time driver positions available in Columbia, Greene, and Berkshire County. We are also open to talking to laborers to ride and work the routes and work up to a CDL. The Trash Collectors primary responsibilities will be to collect waste along designated routes within a municipality, emptying refuse receptacles into the truck he/she is driving. You will also be responsible to drop off and pick up roll-off containers as requested. You will be responsible for the management of your truck, ensuring proper tie-downs and daily reporting on truck maintenance needed. CDL “B” license required in good standing. Barbato Disposal offers weekly residential, commercial and industrial trash & recycling pick-up. Our available sizes are as follows: Roll offs (10-30 yard) and dumpsters (1.5-8 yard) for both commercial and residential jobs or cleanouts. Residential tote sizes of 65 and 95-gallon. We pick up both trash and recycling on the same day, making your life easier. We also offer residential household garbage drop off from furniture to trash bags. Barbato Disposal also offers a Transfer Station on site that is open to the public. We accept construction debris, demolition, large items, household cleanups, and residential trash in bulk over a certified scale, offering you the most inexpensive way to get rid of your unwanted items. We are environmentally responsible. We not only conduct business locally, we live here. Which is why we’ve built our own recycling and recovery transfer facility to help the cause of saving our land, rather than filling landfills. We started recycling even before it was a law, because it means that much to us. We service Columbia, Berkshire, and Greene Counties, with some work in Litchfield, Dutchess and Rensselaer Counties. Located on State Route 23, just 2 miles from the MA/NY border, 15 miles from CT border, in Hillsdale, NY, ¼ east of the Hillsdale traffic light.

The Opportunity:

The Trash Collector Driver collects waste along designated routes within a municipality, emptying refuse receptacles into the truck he/she is driving. A trash collector must be comfortable working non-traditional hours such as early mornings. Working outdoors in all types of weather conditions will also be required of the successful candidate. Additionally, he/she typically works alone. As a result, he/she must be extremely self-motivated, able to function effectively with little or no supervision, following specific instructions so he/she may successfully complete his/her duties within a specific amount of time. He/she must have knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs, assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. We are seeking a dedicated individual who thrives on being a self-starter and is passionate about contributing towards building a local business. Someone who embraces challenge and will speak up and ask for more opportunities to learn, lead and contribute. Specifically, duties will include, but are not limited to: Inspects trucks prior to beginning routes to ensure safe operating conditions. Properly secures truck and it’s contents prior and during operation of vehicle. Refuels trucks and adds other necessary fluids, such as oil. Fills out any needed reports for defective equipment. Drives to disposal sites to empty trucks that have been filled. Drives trucks along established routes through residential streets and alleys, or through business and industrial areas. Operates equipment that compresses the collected refuse. Operates automated or semi-automated hoisting devices that raise refuse bins and dump contents into openings in truck bodies. Dismounts garbage trucks to collect garbage and re-mounts trucks to ride to the next collection point. Communicates with dispatchers concerning delays, unsafe sites, accidents, equipment breakdowns, and other maintenance problems. Keeps informed of road and weather conditions to determine how routes will be affected. Keeps garbage trucks clean inside and out. Speaks directly to customers in a professional manner, providing superior customer service. Does ad hoc shop/laborer work to maintain premises and equipment. May have the opportunity to work in transfer station sorting refuse or on an excavation project in various laborer roles. Must participate in job safety training, including watching videos

Qualifications:

Excellent communication and customer service skills Strong project management skills with outstanding attention to detail Reliable, self-motivated and driven to succeed, even when direction is limited Positive energy and outlook, containing a sense of humor and a ‘Get it done’ attitude Passionate about working and takes pride in their work Team player Must show good defensive driving techniques Must be able to life heavy objects over 50 lbs. Must have experience driving incredibly large vehicles/garbage and recycling trucks in all weather High school diploma or equivalent

Requirements:

Must have a currently valid commercial’s driver’s license (CDL) issued by only one state or jurisdiction Must prepare and furnish a list of violations Must pass a criminal background and drug screening Must have basic math, communication, reading and writing skills in the English language Must be 21 years of age or older Must be physically able to safely drive vehicles used on the job Must successfully complete a driver’s road test.

Compensation:

$25-28/hr.
