SUMMARY:

The ambulance operator is responsible to provide high quality emergency transportation to sick and injured patients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Responds to calls when dispatched+ Inspects the ambulance before each shift, including fuel, oil, transmission fluid, wiper fluid, and coolant; reports any needed repairs+ Checks first aid and medical supply inventory levels before each shift and ensures the ambulance is well-stocked+ Assists patients onto gurneys and loads them into and out of the ambulance+ Keeps the inside and outside of the ambulance clean+ Sanitizes the ambulance and safely disposes of medical waste and soiled linens+ Administers first aid such as bandaging, splinting, and oxygen administration+ Maintains a driving log with daily entries, including patients’ names and addresses, travel times, mileage, and services performed+ Reports accident facts to medical personnel and police officers, when necessary

Physical Requirements:

+ Able to stand, lift, and bend for extended periods of time+ Stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and pushing up to 50 pounds+ Close visual acuity; able to read manuals and other printed or handwritten materials+ Able to work with and manipulate equipment settings, computer keyboard, etc.+ Ability to work well under pressure+ Ability to read a map and follow directions

REQ UIRED QUALIFICATIONS

GED+ AHA BLS+ NYS

Driver’s License

+ Minimum two years’ driving an ambulance

M – Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
