PAY RANGE

Grade 12 $18.1449 – $24.9364 per hour (With longevity increments when applicable)

ELIGIBILITY

This is the 3rd stage of the job posting process everyone can apply for this position.

NOTE:

This position may require shift work including afternoons and weekends and overtime as needed. •Must be a resident of Niagara Falls, NY within 6 months of appointment•

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

This is very difficult operation of heavy and specialized equipment such as truck-trailer combo, street sweeper, street flusher, and other trucks. The incumbent is responsible for operating all assigned equipment within the provisions of the law and for exercising more than ordinary caution with respect to injuries to others, damage to property and for care of the vehicle or equipment assigned. General supervision is received from the Foreman, Assistant Foreman, Crew Leader or other assigned supervisor. The Motor Equipment Operator-3 performs related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

Drives a truck-trailer combo to pick up and deliver heavy machinery, etc. Operates a street sweeper or flusher truck in street cleaning operations; Operates a tandem axle dump truck in street construction and snow plowing operations; Operates various dump trucks when not assigned as above; Performs manual labor when not assigned to drive.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Skill in operating a truck-trailer combo, street sweeper or street flusher truck under metropolitan traffic conditions; alertness; dependability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

: EITHER (A) Graduation from high school or GED and two (2) years of full-time paid experience as a truck driver; OR (B) Any satisfactory combination of experience and training sufficient to indicate ability to do the work.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

: Possession of a valid Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s License issued by the State of New York at time of appointment and maintained for duration of employment.
