Job Description

Traffic Asset Specialist 3.6 3.6 out of 5 stars 2378 SE Ocean Blvd, Stuart, FL 34996 JOB Technical engineering field work in support of pavement management, traffic engineering and asset inventory functions. Work involves purchasing and expediting traffic material and equipment including maintaining an inventory, conducting an annual inventory and receiving material and equipment for stock or distribution. In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee may be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

Maintain an inventory of assets for all signs, traffic signals and transportation related assets. Maintains departmental inventories, in-house warehouse, County wide traffic asset management, and equipment. Generates and closes work orders involving inventory management. Record essential information including location, physical description, legal description, condition and maintenance history. Enter information into inventory management system and GIS geodatabase. Develop and monitor the County GIS sign, signal and lighting inventory database for changes, additions and updates. Update inventory with information on all new and relocated signs, signals and lightings. Responsible for the annual inventory of all parts and equipment in compound and prices the inventory according to purchasing documentation. Assist and supports other staff members in field which includes locating buried fiber optic cables, traffic signal and streetlight cables, performing locates and pulling out boxes.

Knowledge of the principles and techniques of planning, management and scheduling as they relate to Engineering maintenance activities. Basic knowledge of the fundamental parts pertaining to the installation, troubleshooting and repairing of traffic signals and streetlights. (i.e., poles, loop detectors, controllers, bulbs, ballasts, monitors, cables and other related equipment. Knowledge of accepted purchasing practices and procedures. Knowledge of relational database systems, storage and retrieval of data from these systems, and general design principles. Basic knowledge of GIS procedures, spatial analysis and core GIS principles. Skilled electrical and technical knowledge of the installation, repair and maintenance of traffic control and signals, streetlights and other electrical traffic control devices. Ability to utilize computer software applications including word processing, databases, and spreadsheets. Ability to efficiently operate computers and traffic-related software applications associated with area of assignment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, the public, other governmental departments and agencies. Ability to communicate, orally and in writing, and to submit clear, concise reports. Ability to perform field measurements and prepare accurate sketches of conditions. Ability to read and interpret a wide variety of maps, aerial photographs and plans. Ability to keep records and prepare reports. Ability to lift up to fifty pounds. This position may require positioning and working on ladders.

Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
