JOB SUMMARY:

Under supervision, provides entry level professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental and traffic.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES

Under general to limited supervision, supervises a unit of Traffic Signal Technicians and Trainees involved in the installation, maintenance, and/or repair of traffic control devices and related equipment. Operates or ensures the proper operation and maintenance of several types of equipment used in traffic signal installation and maintenance which may include derrick trucks, aerial bucket trucks, concrete saws, and trenchers. Upload and download signal controllers without supervision. Oversees the inspection of work done by signal contractors, such as loop contracts, cabinet maintenance, signal installations, etc., and insures payment to contractors in a timely manner. Responsible for training of technicians to insure compliance with Department policy and guidelines. Acts as a liaison with utility companies, contractors, and local governments. Maintains District signal warehouse.

SPECIAL NOTE CONCERNING MAXIMUM WEIGHT LIMITATIONS

: The selected candidate(s) will be required to be lifted up into the air in the basket of an aerial bucket truck. The elevated height will vary depending on the equipment, if the equipment is on the ground, sitting on a bridge/overpass, or sitting in a ditch. This Rated Load Capacity for the aerial device (basket) is 310 pounds . This Rated Load Capacity (maximum weight) is determined by the vehicle manufacturer and includes the weight of the individual plus any tools or equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications.

STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR Associate’s degree in a related field OR One year of experience at position equivalent.

AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of valid CDL Experience installing, inspecting, maintaining, and/or repairing traffic control devices Experience operating/maintaining installation vehicles/equipment Possesses a thorough knowledge of standard traffic control procedures/guidelines relating to traffic control device installation and/or repair as set forth in the MUTCD Possesses a thorough knowledge of standard electrical codes/guidelines as set forth in National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) Possesses a working knowledge of signal timing procedures Demonstrated experience providing effective guidance to trainees and technicians Demonstrated experience performing basic mathematical calculations related to traffic control device operation Possesses the physical strength and agility necessary to lift heavy equipment/materials and work at heights up to 55 ft. Demonstrated ability to locate and recognize pertinent information on roadway/highway plans, maps, electrical diagrams/schematics Possesses working knowledge of Departmental policies and rules Demonstrated ability to develop possible solutions to problems Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with supervisor, co-workers, and/or local government staff in a cooperative and professional manner Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others to resolve differences Demonstrated ability to manage own time effectively Demonstrated ability to recall instructional and procedural information with minimal use of reference material Experience reading, interpreting and communicating technical manuals and instructions related to the job Experience completing job related forms and reports Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to change Committed to providing quality customer service

Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion). In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation. Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors. Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
