We are currently hiring an Equipment Operator I for the Department of Transportation & Infrastructure’s (DOTI) Street Maintenance teams. DOTI street maintenance team is responsible for the operation, maintenance, installation, and emergency repair of traffic control devices. They also operate the Transportation Management Center and are responsible for signals, electronics repair, utility locates, sign installation, sign manufacturing and pavement markings.

Equipment Operators:

The entry level crew leaders for the Utility Worker 1&2 teammates Perform semi-skilled and light to heavy physical labor on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects Operate medium to heavy weight equipment powered by engines for maintenance and minor construction projects and patch asphalt and paved areas Lift and empty heavy solid waste containers into disposal trucks, operate hydraulic compaction unit on city trash collection vehicles, and wash trucks as needed Perform minor repairs on gardening and grounds equipment, vehicles, and machinery including repairs of sprinkler systems and may design and fabricate equipment and tools as needed Place and remove barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas for construction and maintenance projects in accordance with traffic regulation requirement Perform other related duties as assigned What You’ll Bring We value diversity of ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, sexual identity, gender, religion, language, ability, and experience and exemplify this through the makeup of our team at all levels. Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics: Previous experience with street maintenance, and other labor-related tasks Experience working in various weather conditions (snow, rain, heat, etc.) and environments (dust, fumes, etc.) Knowledge of city of Denver streets/alleys and use of maps Desire to promote to other positions within the department Required Minimum Qualifications Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.

Experience Requirement:

Two (2) years of general labor experience which must include six (6) months of experience operating light to medium sized equipment.

Education/Experience Equivalency:

Additional appropriate experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirements.

License/Certifications:

This job requires driving. Requires a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL “B”) with appropriate endorsements at the time of application.
