$23.00 – $28.54 Commensurate with Experience SUMMARY Operates airfield markings equipment and performs related manual labor with the Field Maintenance Division, maintaining paint and pavement on runways, taxiways, ramp, and other paved areas at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Primarily operates walk behind paint striper, paint truck, water blaster, and street sweeper. Assists in training peers. Work is performed under strict guidelines such as FAA regulation 14 CFR Part 139, time limitations, and limited supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Repairs and maintains painted and paved areas by operating truck-mounted and walk-behind paint strippers, water blaster, and street sweeper. Assists in rubber removal operations and friction testing. Operates the following, but not limited to, as needed by assignment: flusher truck, backhoe, tractor, bat wing mower, front-end loader, and tandem dump truck. Inspects assigned equipment for readiness and safety. Completes related records and reports. Performs related manual labor. Assists other crews as needed. Participates in snow/inclement weather preparation activities. Operates assigned snow equipment and performs related manual labor during winter/inclement weather. Perform job duties while complying with TSA security requirements. Job duties may require operating vehicles or heavy equipment in/on and around active runway and taxiway environments while following instructions provided by FAA Air Traffic Controllers and following airfield signage, lighting and paint marking instructions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

No minimum level plus three years of experience High School Graduate or Equivalent plus one year of experience CDL-B required within 12 months of employment Preferred Qualifications High School graduation/GED and at least one year experience operating equipment previously mentioned, or if no high school diploma/GED, three years of experience required or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work/industry/military/job specific experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties. Additional experience in airfield paint markings related to FAA 139 Certification and the operation of several pieces of heavy equipment mentioned previously is desirable. Must be familiar with or have the ability to become familiar with the FAA part 139 standard requirements for the airfield environment, TSA airport security requirements, and the FAA part 77 standard requirements. Required Licenses or Certifications Valid driver’s license and ability to qualify for a City driving permit. Ability to acquire MAT endorsement within 6 months. Valid CDL-B with no more than 6 points or the ability to obtain within one year from the date of employment.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Works (Sun-Wed 8:00 pm-6:00 am). This position is considered essential and requires the ability to work other shifts and overtime when required by assignment, inclement weather, or urgent/emergency situations.
